government and economies Men are capable of governing themselves. This fundamental idea was studied by seniors in re- lation to the government of the United States, along with the gov- ernment of our own state, Indiana. Students explored the various court systems, made com- parisions of our type of govern- ment to the government structure of other nations, and delved into the United States Constitution. The highlight of the year oc- curred when students in govern- ment classes were chosen to hold city ofiices and then went to meet their counterpart and learn about his position. Economic classes studied indi- vidual iinancial affairs, the mone- tary system of our country, and business concerns. Students were required to establish a budget for a model family. The stock market brought wealth to some and sent others to the poor farm. Economics Days gave the stu- dents the opportunity to view Monticello's industries in action. 41

sociology ond psychology In the emergence of the humani- ties of sociology and psychology we see manifesting themselves, juvenile court hearings, meetings in the park with loved ones, big white rats running mazes, the mystifying facts divulged by the Ouija board, and extra sensory perception. In psychology time is spent at- tempting to determine why living organisms behave the way they do. Sociology takes these individ- uals, their behavior and integrates them in order to describe group behavior. I thought somebody said that the Ouija board could talk! left Hanna reprimands Sue Bailey for a harsh statement. Roger and Shirley continue to prod the rat, while Bob insists that it isn't going to move. 43
