There's no limit to the good a man can do if he doesn't care who gets the credit. -ANONYMOUS Principal . . . JOHN D. FLATT It is more important to learn to live than to make a living. Few people starve physically, but many of them starve spiritually and socially. They have not developed the skills and interests to enjoy the diverse cultures that are characteristic of the civilization of which they are a part. Therefore, make it a point to educate yourself broadly. Have many interests. Learn to appreciate and to under- stand different peoples and things, past and present. Then you will find life interesting and challenging. -John D. Flatt BOARD OF TRUSTEES Standing-A. W. Morgan, Charles I. Kelly Seated-F rank L. Stephan, Edgar H. Olinsteacl, Clyde Koontz, Glen E. Trail. Arthur Kleinkopf-Director of Curriculum and Teaching Personnel When peoplels minds are in a state of doubt and uncertaiutyg when they are suhjcctecl to conflicting theories and philosophicsg when they are confronted with new and dangerous weapons of warfare which may either destroy civilization or bring untold b essings, then education is truly the symbol of hope for future existence and happiness. In it we place all our confidence for solving the personal, political, social and economic problems of all mankind. It must lead the way to a better and happier world. -Arthur Kleinkopf ROSE MURRAY NORTH Coordinator of English . . Dean of Girls The most amazing word in our language is the word hc-come. What you wish to he ten years from now you are at this time he- coming. Formulatc il philosophy of life. Start working according to the pattern which you set for yourself. Most of all, he thankful that you have the American way of living-lauglb ing, working and looking up at the stars-a way which will help you hr-come a worthy man or woman. -liosis Muiumx' NORTH KENNETH E. KAIL Vice Principal . . . Dean of Boys There is no such thing as luck. It is just a fancy name for careful preparation and con- stant mental alertness to scnsc an opportunity when it arrives. My wish for each student of T.F.H.S. is that he may have the good judgment to take advantage of the many occa- sions provided for him to develop into the type of person whose progress and success in life does not require the constant alibi that his failure and another's success is simply due to luck or the lack of it. -Kenneth E. Growing Painsv and Lavender and Old Lacef, received favorable acclaim by both adults and students. The seniors have been prominent in the Girls, League and the Boys' Club as well as other extra-curricular activities Which help in the development of students. As mid-century graduates, we shall join the lengthening and enviable list of Twin Falls High School alumni. CCL SS of 9511 As our Junior year is ending, we realize that we are becoming adults and must meet life squarely. WVe must conquer our obstacles and turn them into opportunities. Tomorrow will bring new problems, we will build strong foundations, trample discouragements under our feet. and strive for success by facing the world honestly and bravely. Any good that we can do we should begin now as we realize that we are really citizens and must work. We regret the loss of our senior classmates, who have been our daily companions, but we wish them well as they go on their different ways. We hope to support our under- classmen in any way we can. The class play, Double Door, the class assembly, and other dramatic presentations were good examples of superior talent in our junior Class. Another highlight in our year's activities was the junior Prom. Our class of '51 can be proud of its opportunities and ac- complishments. XJ5-11 OFFICERS President . , s. . .M .- . - . . .... In many large cities throughout the country, high school girls are organized, for work and play, into Girls' Leagues. We are part of this pattern. Our slogan is All for one and one for all. Four hundred girls work together to develop a program of activities which will he instrumental toward each adults in society. The junior unit stressed personal appearance, poise and self-confidence. The sopho- girl's maturity. Our program includes service to others, social life, and academic training. Outstanding services this year included Christmas boxes for the junior Red Cross and a German good will project, which provided useful items for German school children. Our academic meetings set high standards and goals for accomplishment. The senior division de- voted its meetings to occupational interests, striving to help t.he girls to early adjustment in college or as rounded high school life. Social life is really interesting for the girls of Twin Falls Iligh. ln the fall an annual event was the big rally, which helped all girls to heeome better acquaint- ed. Our theme this year was On the Beach at Waikiki. Later The Oregon Trail Mixer was held. The Sadie Hawkins Dance, given in traditional style, provided merriment for everyone. Our Valen- tine Ball, one of the most beautiful of all dances, will long be remembered. The Memory Arch after the senior breakfast clilnaxed the year's activities. Down the front steps of Twin Falls High and through the blossom-covered arch made by the junior unit, the senior girls in class day dress pass slowly, sometimes tearfully, in a fitting finale to their League experiences. .l,,-gli.-. The Future Teachers of America Club was organized i11 Twin Falls High School on November 28, 1949. The club was llallled the Anna II. Hayes Club in honor of Mrs. Hayes of Twin Falls, national president of the Congress of Parents and Teachers. The purpose of the club is to enable those students who are interested in heeoining teachers, to study the profession, to know more about the qualities needed in teachers and to analyze themselves to determine whether they possess those needed qualities. The Club meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month, during the lunch hour, with occasional evening meetings for special purposes. There are F. T. Every boy, regardless of his social, athletic, religious, scholastic, or financial standing, automatically becomes a member. There were two highlights in the boys' program this year. The first was the Holly Ball at Christmas time. Lovely Shirley Smith was chosen queen and reigned over one of the most successful dances of the year. The second highlight was the All-Boy Talent Show, presented before a joint meeting of all classes. This program included boys from all three units. This year, under the able leadership of Duane Serpa and the guidance of Mr. Kail, Boys' Club started a new system for utilizing club talent in programs. This is a step in the right direction, which requires the cooperation of all members. We sincerely hope that next year the same idea will be used and will prove even more successful. Included in their activities of the school year 1949-1950 were several work shops, initiations and a Chinese banquet. Miss Pauline Simon, sponsor, has stimulated good work by ever reminding us of the Thespian motto, Act well your part, and here the glory lies. Although the club mcmbcrship is confined to the fellows who have earned a varsity letter in a major sport, those boys arc responsible, to a great degree, for the opinion that other schools form of our school as a wholc. Thr-sc boys arc achicving goals for which thc athletic program was initiated - quick, clcar thinking, physical and mcntal health, good relationships with others, thc ability to follow direc- tions, and thc dcsirc to work hard for a purpose. These qualities help thc members of thc Bruin Club to bccomc lcadcrs in school, and in the community after graduation. President. . .. . Merlin Howard Officers: Vice President. The Pep Club takes pride in promoting sportsmanship and friendliness in inter-school athletic contests. It acts as official school host to visiting teams, cheer leaders, and the public in general. As a secondary purpose, the members of the Pep Club keep the fans supplied with soft drinks, candy, gum, and pop corn. This year the club not only supported our teams at home, but also made several trips to out of town games. The nucleus of the club is the active combina- tion of cheer leaders: Darlene Wavra, Anita Turner, Verne Barnard. Bob Crowley, and Sally Warberg. Since there was insufficient snow for skiing at Magic Mountain until the latter part of December, skiers had a short season in which to gain skill at the sport. Beginning the last week of December and continuing until the third week in February, ski buses were taken to Magic Mountain from the high school each Saturday. Several of the high school boys entered the White Stag Ski Meet, February 18. and the High School Meet, February 25. Each year, weather permitting, the Ski Club becomes a stronger organization that brings one of America's finest and fastest-growing sports within the reach of the students of Twin Falls High School. lIgflT President ,,..
