gy .p .-an ,. l-,..Lq xx, 1 lll5llN UN, lil' 'UW' Hi iw '- - i A school year means many things to Tustin Union High School students. The nine months that wait for us at the end of the summer are always looked upon with speculation. This was to be the year that some would advance academi- cally. Now was the time to enter into more activities. Here was the opportunity for becoming a friend to stu- dents and teachers. Plans were made to capture a new look, a new philosophy, maybe a new steady. The first day of school is a strange one. For freshmen, it was a day of wonderment, a day which was almost dreaded. Sophomores felt years older, no longer afraid, but confident. Juniors realized their sudden move to upperclassmen. They grew up almost overnight, Seniors reflected that this was to be the last first day for them, for they were enjoying their final year at Tustin. Some were happy to be moving on to higher education, some were wishing they were freshmen again. Then, all of a sudden, classes and activities became familiar again, and the school year began its course. The time has passed so quickly. There was little time to remember the first pep rally, and the last football game, and the Homecoming Dance. Only a fleeting re- flection back to Thanksgiving vacation, the beautiful Christmas formal, and the G.A.A. initiation. Christmas vacation brings pleasant memories, but the suddenness of semester finals brought memories to the thought of school again. Loyal Tillers hearts' skip a beat now at the thought of the Brea-Tustin basketball game, which ended our chances of top honors, but which made our team cham- pions in our thoughts anyway. The new student body elections brought campaigning, speeches, and fanfare. I li Lg -3rs... . . -Om 'Kr Tustin Union Hugh School Activity nights were a welcome break from studies, and many clubs sponsored the affairs. The spring play and the swim show soon were over, and rehearsing gave way to Easter vacation and the beach. Clubs took their ditch days, and seniors spent an unforgettable day at Catalina. Graduation announcements were ordered, the magic of the prom was over, and suddenly, Tillers were about to count only days until the end of another year. Who could wait for the long days at the beach, or the summer nights at the drive-in? No one! Summer days almost had been forgotten in thoughts of school-minded Tillers. Plans for summer were being made, and the big day for freedom was circled on the calendar. The last few weeks brought wonderful times-the last dance, the trophies earned by championship spring sport teams, the hot days when watermelon was served in the cafeteria, the assigning of last class duties, the fierce closeness of the student body as it re-assembled itself for last student meetings, last minute counselling for next year's classes. Baccalaureate and the Junior-Senior Prom came and went, and the senior class was in the spotlight as it rehearsed for graduation, and its special members re- ceived awards for high scholastic standings. Finals, as usual, were terrible, but the thought of grades were far enough in the distance to complete the year happily. Books were turned in, lockers cleaned out, and the circled day arrived. Now that the school year of i958-1959 is over, stu- dents of Tustin Union High School must have pleasant memories of it. That is the purpose of this book. The 1959 Audion is dedicated to you--the students of Tustin High School, those who lived the year's moments and made this yearbook possible.
