Homecoming '86 was one to remember, or maybe one to forget. The Student Council provided students with a week of wild excitement. Students dressed as farmers and slobs; they dressed in togas and in clothes that indicated their class. Students toiled for one week so that they could construct the perfect float, using the theme “Movies. Because of their experience, the Senior class captured first place with their float, “The Sting. The juniors found second place with Follow the Yellow Brick Road to a Warrior Victory. The first place in the club category was netted by the FHA with their entry, Gone With the Wind. Though it rained on our parade, our spirits were not dampened. Homecoming festivities, including routines by both Cheerleaders and the Pom-Pon squad, were moved indoors. Alumni gladly suffered through the rain in order to watch the Warriors in action. They were not disappointed; the Tuscola Warriors diffused the Argenta-Oreana Bombers with a score of 33 to 18. The Coronation Ceremony presented Tyrome Mingo and Lisa Alexander as the 1986 Homecoming King and Queen. The Homecoming dance, following the theme of True Colors, featured WLRW's Chad Stevens as disc jockey. Through it all, the students of TCHS weathered the storm to come out on top. 48 The 1986 Homecoming Court Tammy Henson and Tracy Bowen practice the art of toga wrapping. The junior class follows the yellow brick road to a second place success. TCHS football players demonstrate their True Colors. Several Seniors decorate the traditional Homecoming outhouse. 49 The Seniors sting the competition to come away with a first place float. Sarah Murray presents the 1986 Homecoming Grand Marshal, Rosie Crowder, to the student body. A picture's worth a thousand words. Sophomores struck hard but had to settle for a third place prize. Passing a Life Saver was just one of the many activities spon- WE WON!!! sored by the Student Council. 50 The Future Homemakers of America blew away the competition in the club float contest. Musical chairs was one of the many fun-filled activities of Homecoming week. The FFA's undertaking resulted in se- The Freshmen's first move was a valiant effort, cond place. The rain did not cloud the performance of the Pom-Pon squad. Scott Kibler was totally caught up in the spirit of Homecoming '86. 51 52 Julie Hausman and Colleen Swihart prepare to go on stage. The Swing Choir participates in the fall production. I'm Spartacus, I'm Spartacus!” Sean Madison screamed. Lisa Shackley shines a little light on the fall production. Colleen Swihart strikes a pose with a friend. When TCHS took to Broadway this fall, there were many great things to be seen. Julie Hausman, Doug Sievers, Sean Madison, Rachel Purcell, Tracy Bowen, Greg Cottle and Loralee Smith portrayed actors rehearsing for shows on Broadway. Mr. McGlynn wrote the dialogue for the actors, but the songs were from real Broadway shows. Some of the shows highlighted were The Sound of Music, A Fiddler on the Roof, Bye-Bye Birdie and Fame. The producton was unique because more than sixty Tuscola High School students, including the Show Choir, were involved. 53 ALIVE. . . with The Sound of Music The Nun's Choir adds a heavenly touch. «■; a No Way To Stop It Colleen sings of her Favorite Things. 54 ... and they live happily ever after. Rolf serenades Liesl, who is Sixteen Going On Seventeen. The Mother Abbess consults the Nuns about Maria. 'How Can Love Survive1 This spring the sound of music enveloped Tuscola with the talents of over fifty of its high school students. The story revolves around a young postulant named Maria (Colleen Swihart) whose capability of being a nun is in question. The Mother Abbess (Jennifer Smith) asks the opinions of the Sisters Berthe, Sophia and Margaretta (Kara Evory, Jami Lamb and Tracy Bowen) as to what to do concerning Maria. It is decided to send her to the Von Trapp villa, where she will serve as the governess to the seven children (Stacy Schultz, John Daugherty, Susanna Ross, John Mann, Loralee Smith, Leigh Ann Jolley, and Rachel Purcell) of the Captain Von Trapp (Doug Sievers), a zealous Austrian. The Captain's jaunts around the world involve him with the beautiful and wealthy Elsa Schraeder (Julie Hausmann), whom he later plans to marry. Elsa's self-centered companion, Max Detweiler (Sean Madison), who is always looking for musical talents which he can exploit, adds the comic touch to this production. Rolf (Greg Carter), who is Liesl's love interest, turns from a pleasant messenger to a nasty Nazi soldier under the command of the regimented Herr Zeller (Mark Kalmar). The story ends with the marriage of the Captain to his former governess Maria. The Sound of Music was well received by the almost 1000 theatre-goers who attended the three performances. As director Tim McGlynn said, It is everyone's favorite musical. The Council sponsored a ping-pong tournament and a Trivial Pursuit tournament. The Students Council's main undertaking, Homecoming, once again absorbed most of its time and money. The Council took on all facets of Homecoming's organization, from the parade to the dance to what to wear during spirit week. The Council also undertook elections, including class elections. Student Council elections and voting for Teacher of the Year. The turn out was good and the problems were few. In your hands you hold the finished product of a collaboration of effort by many individuals. The production of a yearbook requires countless hours of work by staff members dedicated to the goal of creating a record of the past school year in words and pictures. A yearbook begins with pictures being taken. The staff of photographers, which included Kyle Beachy, Angie Duncan, Rhonda Hardwick, Todd Harmon, Cliff Magee and headed by Mary Smith, had to be on duty at all times, catching a candid photo during school hours or sports events and activities after school. The production staff then takes over, combining the pictures with captions and copy to design the pages of the book. Each page is a separate creation requiring time, effort and patience. Michelle Beeson and Sean Madison, aided by production staff members Scott Beeson, Dawn Coon, Amy Griffith, Tammy Houser, Michelle Kleiss, Sean Kyle, Mary Magee, Jennifer Moorhead, Jennifer Smith, and Sherie Winans, spent their Monday nights as well as many study halls and lunch hours to complete their work by deadlines. Yearbook sponsor, Jon Hart, praises his staff members, who began the year with little or no experience, for a job well done. The faculty of TCHS is also appreciated for putting up with the many times that classes were interrupted in order to get students together for pictures. The staff of the Tuscolian hopes that they have been successful in producing a yearbook of memories which will be enjoyed now and cherished in years to come. 92 Michelle Beeson composes copy at the word processor.
