There are no words which can express our deep appreciation for one who has given such untiring service and loyal devotion to Tuscola High School. We speak not only for our Class, but also for the many alumni whom she has taught. Miss Sluss, in forty-eight years of teaching, has brought to many students a true appreciation of learning. CLASS HISTORY On August 28,1958, the seventy-seven members of the Freshman Class meekly approached the newly-built high school to start four years of higher education. We put our trust in Bob Wetzel as President, Morrie Reece as Vice-President, Jerryl Welbom as Secretary, Marsha Graham as Treasurer, and Judy Wright as Student Council Representative. Our activities were guided by Miss Weaver and Mr. Cain. The theme of our Freshman float was T.C. H. S. Raids'em, which we regret didn’t win anything. We welcomed to our class, Naomi Howard and Rosie Fults, but we also bade farewell to Mary Bierman, Hazel Cross, Rex Evans, Jim Newberry, Ray Wilhelm, and Anna Lee Wilson. There were seventy-three members to start our Sophomore year. Our leaders were Jim Manwaring, President; Marsha Graham, Vice-President; Jane Dunn, Secretary; Dick Bean, Treasurer; and Judy Wright, Student Council Representative. Mrs. Lionberger, Mr. Cain, and Miss Weaver were our sponsors. Our float, Genie-wine Victory, tied third place with the F. H.A. float. We were pleased to gain as classmates, John Campbell, Katherine Hood, Harold Fonner, and Janice Stoner. We said good-bye to Betty Thode, Sharon Henderson, and Dianne Houchin. Our officers for our Junior year were Morrie Reece, President; Jane Rothgeb, Vice-President; Jane Dunn, Secretary; Marsha Graham, Treasurer; and Judy Wright, Student Council Representative. To guide us through the year were Miss Weaver, Mr. Cain, and Mrs. Lionberger. This year our float was even better. We won second place! Our theme was We Don’t Clown With Victory. Our undefeated football team was honored as the Okaw Champs. Around Christmas time everyone was excited to hear our class rings had finally arrived. Some acting abilities were discovered when the Junior Class presented the play, Love is Too Much Trouble, directed by Miss Weaver. Peggy Dickson and Louis Hope-well entered our class, but Linda Brinkley, Kenny Billings, Roy Lietz, and Bob O’Bryan left. Toward the end of the school year, we held the Junior-Senior Prom. Bob Norman spotlighted the evening with his band. Our theme was a beautiful Cinderella Ball. Our Senior year started out with a bang. First of all, our float won third place. It was a big chicken with the slogan, We're Laying for V. G. We were very proud of Paul Donley and Barbara Lecher as our Homecoming King and Queen. The Senior Class play was a hugh success, directed by Mrs. Kataoka. Although we lost from our class Rita Stabler, Dee Dee Ingle, and Katherine Hood, we gained Shirley Thomas. Mrs. Kataoka, Mr. Butkovich, and Miss Weaver were our class sponsors. Total students enrolled are 317. Many have wondered why the halls are so crowded. There are two reasons for this. First there are 47 more students than last year. Also, most of the 47 are lost freshmen! TCHS must adjust to this number of students. From now on the incoming classes will number over 100. VARIETY SHOW CLASS PROPHECY You are invited, this day in May, 2002, to view the life records as they were read during the last reunion of the Tuscola High School Class of 1962. The President presiding over this Class reunion, and the main person responsible for the selection of the special committee who contacted the members of the Class of 1962, was Morrie Reece, the former president of Chickenbristle, Texas. The special committee who gave Morrie its utmost support and valuable time consisted of Carol Gates, Marcus Bunting, and Jeryl Welbom. As we, the members of the Classs of 1962, began reading the record-book, we found that the antics which we pulled and the embarrasing moments which we encountered, had quite a bearing on our later lives. The former Carol Gates, who married a medical doctor, was quite good at keeping her husband supplied with patients. She ran over Volkswagons. Marcus Bunting, who held a 5-point average in school, became an assistant to one of his fellow brains, John McDaniel. They are now digging ditches in Alcatraz. We are sorry to say that Jeryl Welborn, the former secretary to the President, almost died of over-exhust-ion from pumping up flat tires. The last slumber party she attended was too much for her. All the guests arrived on time at the reunion. This was, no doubt, because they all had Jones' Watches, designed exclusively by Nancy Jones. She had become very prosperous in the business. Donna Beard became a famous petticoat designer. They were guaranteed not to fall to the floor while dancing. Elizabeth Keigley, better known to us as Libby, opened an exclusive beauty salon for St. Bernard dogs. Katy Hood was one of her best customers, who brought in her famous dog troupe. Poor Art Wilson, bless him, hadn't been able to work for thirty years due to a hip injury he received while taking twist lessons from David Wilson. He was very lucky, though. His wife had supported him all those years. She played the guitar. Everyone in the Class was very much surprised to find that one of our old classmates had run for a position in politics. Willis Yoder is now the official Thistle Inspector of Chickenbristle, Texas. We knew Morrie would help him. He always did feel sorry for cats. Judy Wright created a new dye for red hair I Boy I It's really-well---red! She won't tell her secret to anyone. Only her hairdresser really knows. Bob Stout furnished all the turkeys for the reunion. Stout's Poultry Ranch is world-famous. John Campbell finally made his million by digging up graves. He made $12.00 an hour, but he had to work in a very cold atmosphere. Jim Manwaring loved school so much that he got a job at Chickenbristle High School, He was chief truant officer there, and from the reports we had, he got better results by just telling the truant students a personal story. We wondered what about. Howard Patterson was a recruiter for the John Birch Society. He became interested in this organization in High School Civics class. Mike Weber was still working at his same old job. He was the head tester of Sealy Posturepedic Mattresses. The only difference between school days and occupational days was that he slept sitting up in class, and he got to lie down while working. Russell Long did his life's work in the African Peace Corps. He taught the natives how to drag. John Gemon was editor of the Playbow Magazine. He decided to go into a joint business with Bob Wetzel. Bob made contact glue so the boys wouldn’t be constantly losing their contacts when straining their eyes. Beanies, the pcr,,1ar restaurant, was owned by Dick who had a very good business going until he went bankrupt. Marsha Grc .n was featured as the singer and Bert Kish was featured as the comedienne. Ruth Ann Moore supplied a nice atmosphere of soft music on the piano. Janice Stoner, Lyla Spencer, Marilyn Ziegler, and Mary Ruby were waitresses there. It's heart warming to know that some of the class stayed together. This reunion would never have been possible without the help of Louis Hopewell. He was the head of the Gallup Poll, and without persons such as he, we would get nowhere when trying to find a group as large as this one. Carolyn Lietz made quite a lot of progress. She moved up from a car hop at the A W, to a Dog and Suds owner in Flordia. Ray Ready., an Untouchable, was hired to track moonshiners down, but his associates, Killer Clifford Clouser, Butcher Ralph Brewer, and Wildman Jim Weber, only found the brew and that was as far as they got. Jane Dunn ended her career as a driving instructor at Tuscola High School. Her students didn't drive the way she did and it made her very nervous. Poor thing, and she was so stable, too. Alice Dallas figured she had enough experiences to write a book, so she did. She wrote one for high school students called CHICKEN FARMERS OF AMERICA. She got tired of everyone borrowing chickens from her to give to a school south of Tuscola. Sue Meadows wrote a Lonely Hearts column for the New York Times. She had been married four times before she realized it was better to go on being lonely than putting up with whatever it was she had to put up with. Claude Benner finally made his fortune. He was a prosperous barber. In fact, flat-tops were his specialty. They came in extra short, short, medium short, medium, or you could get the Benner Special. Ronnie Knapp finally received his degree as a psychiatrist. The only patients he could treat, however, were neurotic school teachers. Jan Charnetzki made a career out of teaching. She was professor at the University of Illinois. Believe it or not, her field of teaching was Logic and Common Sense. She evidently followed our advice for notetaking. Peggy Dickson worked as a bubble-bath demonstrator in one of the well-known department stores in New York. Saks Fifth Avenue has really nice smelling bubble-bath. And such big bubbles, too. Paul Donley was thought of as one of our best mail carriers. He did an exceptionally good job, considering his handicap. Just think what he could have done had he been able to read. Kathleen Kappes and Shirley Thomas worked as spies for the Car-Owner's Corporation. It seems during their high school days. Someone was always driving around in Someone else's car. After high school, Willa Tice must have grown a few feet because she played center on a famous women's basketball team. She was called True-shot Tice. Gary Martin and Terry VonLanken went into business smuggling tractors to Cuba. They had quite a hard time without a boat. Ronnie Waugh ended up in the penitentiary, but for a while, he was making big money--------about an inch too big, in fact. Judy Heckler was editor of the Chickenbristle Press. She made quite a lot of improvements in the paper. Now it had two pages instead of just one. Barbara Lecher put to good use her experience in taking pictures for the 1962 Tuscolian. She was on the staff of Candid Camera. Sandra Fuller was left with her grandfather's Fuller-brush business. Her trademark was Fuller's Fine Feathered Fluffers. Jim Rice owned a Midnite Auto Supply. His motto was Get 'em While They're Hot. Herald Fonner owned a feed store. His slogn was If You Want Fodder. By Golly, We've Got 'er --Fonner's Fodder. Ronnie Stabler was a United States Representative of the People's Bricklayers who helped build the wall around Berlin. He told us that he got quite a charge out of it. Lynne Reece once won the Olympics in high climbing. She trained by climbing water-towers. Mary K. Riley used to run Romanoff's Restaurant. She was doing well until Romanoff came back to America. Jane Hinkle invented a new cream for the removal of freckles. We were sorry to hear that it didn't work. Warren The Weatherman Thompson once worked on WLS, but resigned after about a month because he wanted to do rain dances for the Navajo Indians. Bruce Weatherford and Kenny Wagner are still in the Iron and Steel business. Bruce irons and Kenny steals. Charles Colley finally reached his goal. He was manager of G. A. A. Rosie Fults, who worked at the Strand Theater selling tickets, finally was promoted to popcorn salter. Jane Rothgeb, sometimes called Smiley was a toothpaste demonstrator for the Colgate Palmolive Toothpaste Company. She received fame when she gave the commercial, Look, Mom, no taste buds. That HCL-40 was too much for her after four years of demonstrating. As we closed the pages of this record we had compiled for our classmates, we recalled that they were a good group of kids, and that they must have really had a blast during their four years in highschool.
