Second Prize - Freshman Class I 7 r amt Class Prophecy Good evening and welcome to station KTCHS with studios in the Tepee designed by Michael Hausmann. Tonight, we, the Class of 1957, proudly present “Is This Your Life?” Our guest for tonight will be announced after a short commercial from our sponsors, “Sniff deodorant. “If you haven’t found your present deodorant satisfactory, try “Sniff. It is guaranteed to remove the armpit and leave the odor. Remember now, use “Sniff, manufactured by the Lewises, Fred, John, and Joyce, the former Miss Kibler. Thank you. Now for our guest. Tonight we wish to reveal to you the life of the President of the Class of 57, Keith Farber. Good evening, Mr. Farber. Keith, do you remember the trip you took to Texas after your graduation from college. Two famous Tuscolians, now Texans, and joint owners of the B W Ranch, invited you to join them in celebrating the union of their two ranches. Yes, here they are, Bill Ware and Mike Branham, who own only sixty per cent of Texas. While you were touring the ranch, your horse threw a shoe and Tom Burns, the ranch blacksmith and cow “shoo-er, nailed on a new shoe. Then Mr. Ware called Dr. Ronald Bean to remove the horseshoe from your foot. Dinner, cooked by Chef Malcolm Welch, was served by “Model of the Year, Sandra Foley, who recently wed that notorious playboy, Timm Gore. Back at the ranch you were introduced to Edward G. Bass, who, since his release from the army, has become an oil tycoon and multi-billionaire. Mr. Bass recently appointed Barbara Me Cumber as the offical hostess for his new chain of hotels, the Conrad Tiltons. Listen to the cornet being played behind stage. Do you recognize it? Yes, it s the world-renowned band leader, Norman Browning, who has just returned from a tour with Louis Armstrong. And here is Ruth Mayer, that controversial torch singer, who has been singing in Rowena Cunningham’s restaurant, the Chez. Do these two faces look familiar? That’s right, Mr. Farber. They are Frank “Elvis Hausmann and Delores O’Bryan, a sensational yodeler discovered yodel-ing for a National Distillers advertisement. Do you recall the night you were in Miss Cunningham’s restaurant enjoying the beautiful murals painted by Shirley Cooper in primitive modern art? The mistress of ceremonies, lovely Linda Rich, announced a wrestling match between Jerry “Bruising Bruno Breen and “Rough” Robert Manwaring, refereed by Sandra Schultz. “Sonnie called a halt after five minutes, and the world-famous mortician, Linda Leithliter, and her assistant, Anita Sinclair, a professional pallbearer, came to remove the bodies. Then Miss Rich introduced the new Globetrotter stars, Jack Jolley and Wilt Chamberlain. It seems that Jack acquired a good suntan down south and had succeeded in fooling Mr. Saperstein. They will all be waiting for you backstage. Yes, all your friends of the sports world are here. Gary Bates and Jim Mackey, distinguished hockey stars for the Redwings, have just set a new scoring record of 6 points per game. Although they scored these points for their opponents, we had them flown out on Deanna Henning-sen’s new airline. Miss Judy Breen, named “Stewardess of the Year,” another of your classmates, took good care of them on the trip. Keith, do you recognize this little lady walking toward you? You’re right; it s Janet Man-waring, the world’s champion weight lifter, just returning from the Olympics. Following Janet are the “most valuable players” in the national football league, James Turner and Jerry Ring, accompanied by the “most valuable water boy,” Ken Taylor. Here come two women who have become famous in the sports world, Julia Gates, the manager and coach of the Hungarian fencing team; and Phyllis Chaplin, women’s billiard champion. Ron Cantrell was supposed to come, but he is participating in a cross-country motorcycle race. He sends his greetings along with a recommendation for Buchanan Transmissions, manufactured for 49 Fords by Roger Buchanan. Now, think back, Keith. You are now at one of Mr. Bass’s Conrad Tiltons in New York. The number one lady of New York society greeted you, and here she is right now--Miss Jeannetta Cox. Let’s continue with your past. While at the hotel, you ran into a large number of your former classmates who were attending various conventions. Pat Weber, the president of National Distillers, and his chief engineer in charge of distilling, Sharyl Rahn, had called for an annual meeting of their company. Entertainment for the meeting was provided by the “Three R s,” Twylla Rahn and her two sons, Roscoe and Allan. The “Three R’s” were presented by KTCH disc jockey, Betty Hannah, who is famous for her platter chatter. Miss Carolyn Biermann, missionary to Africa introduced her converted head hunters who had accompanied her back to the United States on this trip. Mr. Weber had invited several famous hotel guests to attend this meeting. Some of them were Marlene Lloyd, who manufactures white flannel pajamas with red polka dots; Carolyn Martin, a Floridian beachcomber; Benny Brant, an English professor at Yale; Ruth Ann Ziegler, author of that popular children’s book, HOW TO MAKE NITROGLYCERIN IN 10 EASY STEPS; Nancy Tice, owner of the Nice Tice Gasoline Stations, which cater exclusively to Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles; and Judy Vukelich, a Latin teacher who has been teaching Latin to the Romans. They are all waiting for you backstage. While at the hotel, Keith, you ran into some more classmates involved in a world-publicized criminal case. Frank Lincoln, a distinguished Harvard graduate, was trying to find enough evidence to convict James Myron Pettitt III for embezzling the hotel funds. Jim was very careful and had committed a nearly perfect crime; so Frank hired policewoman, Judy Stabler, “private eye” Lynn Jones, and hotel detective, Marcia Lecher, to follow Mr. Pettitt. Mr. Lincoln had already questioned Carolyn Moore and her fifth husband. Bill Nisbet; Carl Bozarth, School Superintendent of District 301; Irene Yoder, county veterinarian; and Harriet Armstrong, who had been vacationing while her husband, a professor at Texas A . M, worked on a thesis. Isn’t this exciting, Mr. Farber? Now we journey back to the Horsemen’s dinner to pick up the last few classmates. At the dinner we see Nancy Williams, a society horsewoman, and her executive husband, Larry Reed, talking to Jack Stickel, the owner of Sea Muffin; “Jockey of the Year,” Wayne Utterback; and Jack’s trainer, Jim Dodson. Now that you have met all your old classmates, Keith, we wish to present you with a gift prescribed by all of your high school teachers. The gift we now wish to present is a year’s free treatments from that noted psychiatrist, Ed Fry. We know you’ll need and appreciate this. Thank you. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I see by the clock that our time has run out. Nancy Williams Mike Hausmann Senior Class History Much to our amazement the Class of 1957 was the thirty-fourth and last to graduate from the high school building on Sale Street, which to us, will always be dear ol' T.C.H.S. We all remember the day late in August of 1953 when we entered as the Freshman Class --all seventy-one of us. That year we gained many new friends, including new classmates, Anita Sinclair, Jeannetta Cox, Keith Farber, and Jack StickeL We elected as our officers: President, Mike Martin; Vice-President, Judy Breen; Secretary-Treasurer, Jack Jolley; and Student Council Member, Norman Browning. Our faithful advisors were Mr. Roll and Miss Deer. Our main event for the year was our Freshman float, “We’ll Plow ’em Under. ’ We concluded the year with a picnic at Ervin Park. The next year as Sophomores we were a little more confident and began to take part in the activities of high school. Our class membership had increased to seventy-six. Among the new members were Judy Vukelich and Ron Bean. Our leaders were: President, Keith Farber; Vice-President, Norman Browning; Secretary-Treasurer, Frank Lincoln; Student Council Member, Jack Jolley; and our advisors were Mrs. Danner and Mr. Schrader. At Homecoming we all worked hard on our float, the “Crown of Victory,’ which was the winner of second prize. Boy! Were we proud! Here we were Juniors -- finally upper classmen. During the summer we had lost quite a few members, but gained four: Benny Brant, Nance Tice, Timm Gore and Betty Hannah. Our officers for the year were: President, Phyllis Chaplin; Vice-President, Twylla Rahn; Secretary-Treasurer, Irene Yoder; Student Council Member, Keith Farber; and Junior Editor for the Annual, Judy Breen. We found Mrs. Danner to be such a capable Sophomore Class Advisor that we chose her again for our Junior Advisor. For our other advisor, we chose Mr. Anderson. This was our big year. Our magazine sales were $1,841.32. We broke no records, but did very well. Then we were given a chance to show our acting ability in our Junior Class Play, “Stardust” which was presented in December. The climax to this year was the Junior-Senior Reception and Prom at the Orlando Hotel in Decatur on May 26. Our theme was “Out of This World,” with music by the Dreamtimers. Well, we made it — Seniors at last! For a while, it looked doubtful. We were glad to welcome into our class Malcolm Welch, Larry Reed, Jim Dodson, Ken Taylor, Carolyn Biermann and Rowena Cunningham. Congratulations to the boys who were elected Senior Class Officers: President, Keith Farber; Vice-President, Jim Mackey; Secretary, Fred Lewis; Treasurer, Ed Bass; Student Council Member, Jack Jolley; and Annual Co-Editors, Twylla Rahn and Judy Breen. We elected as our advisors, Mr. Michael and Miss Brown. Under the supervision of Miss Sluss and Miss Magnusson, we were able to edit an attractive annual. The Senior Class float, “Teach ’em a Lesson” was not a winner, but was very original. With the able assistance of Miss Brown, on April 11, the Senior Class successfully presented our class play, “A Man Called Peter.” Then we all had our chance to skip school on Senior Skip Day. Everyone had a good time at Turkey Run. On May 11, the Juniors, who were to succeed us as the leaders of T.C.H.S., gave us a very nice reception and prom at the new Community Building. Our prom was the first to be held there. But the high lights of our high school days were centered around Baccalaureate and Commencement on May 26 and 28. Thus ended the high school days for the Class of 1957, the thirty-fourth and last class to be graduated from the old building.
