HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 45 We entered Tuscarora Valley High School just four short years ago on September the Ninth, Nineteen hundred and forty-one. We numbered thirty eight shy and bashful Freshmen. The strange faces soon became familiar ones, and we all, after some difficulty, became accustomed to the routine of High School life. After a few weeks had passed, we elected the following officers to pilot our class for the first year: President, Frank Henry Hower; Secretary, Martha Yoder; Treasurer, Jean Shirk. Our girls formed a Girls' Chorus and we all took part in the various athletics and entertainments pre- sented by the school. The main event that took place our Freshman year was the weiner roast held at Cooper's Dam. It proved a great success even with the rain. We emerged from our Freshman Class with great hopes for the future. After a well spent vacation, we again entered Tuscarora Valley High School as Sophomores. This year we elected as our officers: President, Nelson Swartz; Secretary, Martha Yoder; Treasurer, Betty Meloy. The activities this year included our annual weiner roast at Cooper's Dam. Our boys and girls again took part in the various athletics and dramatic activities. This year we purchased our class rings. We were initiated to the rank of upper classmen at the Junior Prom. We all took our initiations happily with the thought of being Juniors next year. We again returned, less in number, but more in wisdom, as jolly Juniors. Our Junior executives were: President, Oscar Swartz Jr.; Secretary, Dorothy Boyer; Treasurer, Betty Meloy. This year we realized our rank as upper classmen and presented a play entitled The Angel Brats . As before, we showed our ability to fight in the fields of sports. Our class also started a school paper called The Tuscarora . The main social event was the Junior Prom held at the Community Hall to bid good-bye to the Seniors and initiate the Sophomores to become upper classmen. The Finals soon darkened the sky but as they passed over, we found ourselves Seniors. After a short vacation, we found ourselves back again as dignified Seniors. -20-

She is the beautician for the Broadway Chorus girl. Kathryn Hertzler is now taking over the Kate Smith Hour. Tune in and see for yourself. Betty Meloy is that accomplished Maestro for which she has always dreamed. While visiting in the western states, there was Frank Hower supervising the National Lumber Company. Martha Yoder is now studying to be a Powers' model in New York. 1 hear she is leaving for the western states soon to join her husband Frank Hower. Benjamin Towsey is now a Pilot on a huge transport which makes daily trips from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. When I met Dorothy Fettig she told me she had quite a few experiences in civilian life, and has a steady job in a Philadelphia Bank. -19-
