The HT's plan, supervise, and perform tasks necessary for fabrication, installation, and repair of all types of structures and piping systems. Their motto, lf we can't make it, it can't be madel , is continually proven as they demonstrate their technical expertise. DC's are the ship's experts on damage control, CBR defense, and firefighting. They are responsible for training, organizing, and supervising the ship's crew in these critical areas. Together HT's and DC's make up the core ofthe ship's Fire Department . R Division's contributions to the TUSCALOOSA team can be witnessed in the variety of repair work and high level of training that allows this ship to stand out as the finest LST in the Pacific Fleet.

Deck Department 'UW IIIVL ION 1st Division is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the ship's forecastle, fantail, flight deck, anchor and tank deck. Their duties include loweringand raising the ship's anchors, boats, and sterngate, and also- operating the bow ramp and booms. 1st Division coordinates every UNREP so the evolution will flow as smoothly and safely as possible. The most rewarding job the deck crew has is launching AAV's fAmphibious Assault Vehiclesl during major Amphibious Warfare evolutions.
