I-IGMECGIVIING 86 There's no place like home was never a more fitting quotation than on the morning of 19 De- cember when we set the Special Sea and Anchor Detail in preparation for the last leg of our ocean- going transit on heading to Pier 11 of the Naval Station on 32nd Street. The Marines from Fox Company Battalion Landing Team 2!1 were al- ready re-acquainting themselves with family and friends, having debarked the ship the day before. For them, the dry land was undoubtedly a wel- come change from the 140 days spent at sea. By 0930 am, we had fully Manned the Rail. A huge wreath was hung circling the entire ship's bow and Santa Claus stood foremost among us to let the lovedones we would soon see know that we were ready for the holiday season. Seeing different parts of the world had been a great ex- perience. But no place quite compared with the good o'le USA. Or, in a word, home. i , zfv' Wy tix' av- ph. W' A lx tc, X ss. ff r 'vi Q

It is an exciting and proud moment for both parents. The father would give any- thing to be with the mother and help her during the birth, but for some that is not possible. Sailors and Marines whose wives have had babies during this WESTPAC, have had to face this unfortunate situation. But it just gives us one more thing to look forward to as we ap- proach home. Fathers cannot wait to receive pictures in the mail of their newborn child. Here are a few pictures that the proud fathers would like to share with you.
