TIGER CRUISE Male dependents of the crewmen or Ti- gers had the opportunity to sail onboard the Big T on our transit from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to San Diego, California. More than thirty people participated in the program which consisted ofa wide assortment of ac- tivities including a shipwide tour, a demon- stration of Damage Control techniques, lec- tures on Marine Corps weapons, an All- Hands talent competition and a close look at the components and capabilities of the Ma- rines impressive Corbra helicopter. For the less Salty civilians, the periods during which we experienced heavy seas took a little getting used to. Tigers were in- doctrinated into Naval routine and encour- aged to spend time watching their relatives in action. While watchstanding, Fathers and Brothers were quick to learn the difference between 8 to 12 and a Midwatch fmidnight to 0400 in the morningl. Nevertheless, most Wow, Man! 'NP' Q., ,,- . iz, f My M-1 6 TUSCALOOSA GIVES THAT EXTRA THREE PERCENT This WESTPAC found a few of the Big- T crewmembers volunteering many of their own time in the construction of various projects while in the Philippines. Six SEABEE's from Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE and one of our crewmembers spent a weekend at one of the local mountain schools. BM1 Paulino, BM3 Ward, SN Parker, SN Stafford, SN Huff, SN Creaven and HT2 Suiter helped in the construction of a new Cafeteria and the preservation of three classrooms. Another group of crewmembers also participated in a rewarding weekend by helping rebuild one of the local Orphanages. YNNSWJ Smith, BM1 Paulino, HT2 Suiter, SM2 Siler, BT3 Ibanez, SN Armstrong, SN Brooks, SN Martin, SN Jones worked on the main building while SN Conners, SN Tucker, and HN Roan added on a new bedroom for the children. They also reroofed the Orphanage. But the biggest highlight as far as the children were concerned was the addition of a new Basketball Court and Backboard.
