Mr. Paul Klaassen leads the Glee clubs, chorus, choir and chorale. Mr. Wayne Hamilton directs the band. Miss Elizabeth Choplin and Mr. Paul Carson operate the art courses. Phys. Ed. Mr. Joe Baker, the head of the P.E. Department, and his assistant, Mr. Roy Johansen, instruct approximately 300 sophomore and junior boys each week. The instructor of Girls' Physical Education is Mrs. Janice Saul. Her classes are slightly larger, with 340 stu- dents. Physical Education is required for sophomores and is ,4 an elective for juniors and seniors. iii 1 Foreign Language Learning a foreign language provides a new scale of communication and gives a cultural background for world understanding. In this time for wider communi- cations and travel the need for a better knowledge of foreign languages is essential. Turner offers three foreign languages: Spanish, French, and Latin. Students not only learn about the speaking and structure of the language, but about the history and people of that country. Turner has a well-equipped shop area which gives stu- dents an opportunity to work with up-to-date machinery and gain actual experience through their work.
