Sandy Smith was enslaved to Larry Bunce as part of the crowning ceremonies of the king and queen of the Twirp Dance. TWIRP DANCE Proved to be Memorable With Chain Crowning This year the Student Council sponsored a dance to end Tvvirp Week. It was held on March 19, with an Egyptian theme. The stu- dents dressed in school attire were surrounded by mummies, camels, and pyramids for an ef- fective setting. Slave tickets were sold for 1C to the girls during Twirp Week. Whenever a girl would do a deed for a boy, she and the boy would sign the ticket and would Write down what it was that the girl did for the boy. Whichever girl had acquired the most tickets during that Week, she was crowned the Twirp Queen. Sandy Smith was crowned Twirp Queen, choosing Larry Bunce as her King. The tvvo were chained together with a paper chain as a symbol of their life together forever. Dancing along side Larry and Sandy at the Twirp Dance were Linda Jenkins and Steve Hannag looking on'is Donna Cook.

TWIRP WEEK Adds Touch ofVa,riety To Usual Routine Twirp Week is an annual celebration at Turner that takes place each year approx- imately at spring time. The tables are turned, and the girls take over the position of the males of THS. They open doors, carry their books, pay for any dates that week, and ask them to the Twirp Dance at the end of the week. This week gives the shy girl, as well as others the chance that they have been waiting for all year--the chance toask that special boy to the Twirp Dance. A day of casual dress was also allowed. The boys were allowed to wear bermudas, and overalls. The girls were allowed to wear slacks and cullottes. In appreciation of this day, the students participated in a dress- up day. The boys wore suits, and the girls wore their best dresses. HH Senior Gary Main jokingly recalled his early days in old Mexico as he prepares for Twirp Week. Getting ready for the annual Twirp Week were: Janet Chambers, Larry Ray and Vivian Tolar, and, Randy Morche and Paul Bartles, Doris Prather and Jerry Poletis and Becky Muro.
