Science and Space Spur Students The expanding horizons of the space age are presenting new challenges in all fields, but the impact of this revolu- tion is felt in the sciences more than in any other discipline. Such terms as isotope, half-life and ATP are becoming familiar terms to students nation wide. In an attempt to meet this challenge, the government has initiated programs of aid such as the National Defense, and E ducation Act and yearly grants furnished by the National Science Foundation de- signed to improve the facilities and quality of science education across the nation. Turner has responded to the impact of this revolution with the highest en- rollment in science in its history. Classes such as general science, biology, chemistry and physics are constantly being revised and new classes added. One such class, Biology II, was intro- duced at Turner this year. And Labor lo Launch Lilework Language, sir, is the blood of the soul, into which our thoughts run, and out of which they grow. qOliver Wendell Holmesj English is our language, and the language of over one fifth of the world, either as the first or second tongue. It is continually growing in universal appeal and growing more important in our society. Perhaps, it may be the link to join countries in a chain of peace. Four years of English are required at Turner. English I, II, and III are required courses and elective courses such as English IV, junior and senior journal- ism, drama, speech, debate, stagecraft, and communi- cations are offered. Tomorrow's citizens will have a greater command of the language they speak and will know better how to apply it to the world in which they live. DOROTHY PLATT DONALD HANLEY A.B., M.A. A.B. Problems Puzzle P As a tool to develop the mind math teaches a student to think and reason for himself, which as an individual he must learn to do. Turner has broadened its math program this year by adding aGeneral Math II class. The purpose of the class is to serve as a refresher course for students having only one year of math in high school. Another addition to the math department is calculus. It is now offered to approved seniors during their study hall period every other day. The course gives one-half credit for the year. Other courses offered in the math department are general math, Algebra I and II, geometry, and senior math. upils, Preaches Profs RONALD COFFMAN MARY SCOTT B ,S, A.B.
