Spring Fever I-IY all this indifference in school? What is it that is making the students slack up on their work? What epidemic is spread- ing through this school? Is it smallpox? No, I believe not g it must be spring fever. The students, souls are stirred by the songs of the birds and the beautiful appearance of nature. Nature is calling us from our books to the beautiful out-of-doors, and we are finding it hard to keep our resolution to study and keep up our scfhool standard. Everyone is thinking of picnics and wild flowers. We are appreciating the beauty of nature far more than we did a few weeks ago. Let us all enjoy the songs of the birds and the fragrance and beauty of wild flowers. Let us accept all the pleasure that spring can give usp but let us not forget our studies. Let's cross off the red marks. M. SWENSON, '23, Q3 . rg A Q, ' E' 4 18

Episodes of the Class' of 1921 When to the sessions of sweet, silent thought, I summon up remembrance of things past - Four years stand out distinctly in that memory. They are the four years just passed-my high school days. I-low well I remember the first day that mighty company of youths and maidens marched to the fortification, established in the city of Turlock and commanded by Professor Ratzell. These meager, jejune, starveling, feeble and corpulent, obese, plethoric, plump youths and maidens were wel- comed by Professor Ratzell under whose regulations and powerful authority they soon became meek and docile. But the entrance by this mighty class into T. H. S. marked the beginning of a new era. No more were freshmen to enter with fear and trembling, but with a determination to support the honor of the school. - Our reception was very unpleasant, for tl1e sophs immediately proceeded to water the gardens. Not once, but twice, we were accorded this untimely dessert. This company was successfully organized under the competent commandant Goodie Schaffer. We had many pleasant times during this year. Having been through the regions of darkness, we p1'o- ceeded forth into the dawn of light. Behold! At the beginning of the second year the supercilious class of '21 recognized their superiority over the new band of blushing youths and maidens then entering the stronghold of knowledge. We marshalled our forces and proceeded to show them the workings of a modern high school. No commiseration was shown unto them for their bewailings and lamentations. After the usual proceedings we satisfied ourselves to let them proceed with their daily tasks in order that they might gain their rightful position. The flu epidemic cut into our second year and although we had a competent leader in John Roberts, the successful competitor to Ralph de Palma, our second year passed without many hair-raising events. However, the athletic ability of our class commenced to make itself apparent in the physical department of the school. Sane, sober, serious, earnest, and diligent, the class of '21 entered upon the second lap of their eventful journey and into the sacred realm of juniors. We realized our superiority and the advantages we had over our fellow students, and immediately we put these into 20
