No more parties or girls for me, 1,111 going to do just what I please? He glanced quickly around the room, then ' left for the station. A Dick had been asked to spend part of his vacation with his former roommate at college, Tad Roland. Tad had left college because of his gI'3,lldf3.th61',S death. It was hard for Tad to leave schoolvfduring the last week on account of the numerous banquets and dances given to the graduates, but now he was looking forward to Dick's coming, in the hope that this visit would bring much cheer. They arrived at the ranch in time for a big dinner given in Dick's honor. When they entered the house Tad presented Dick to the rest of the family. All through the .evening Dick was very uncomfortable and troubled while Tad was smiling. What do you mean by this? asked Dick. Didn,t I come down here just to get away from girls and have a good time? Then, the first thing out steps a pretty brunette. Who is she? What's she doing here? stormed Dick. Tad was so full of laughter that he could hardly speak. She's my grandmother, he murmured, through bursts of laughter. Grandmother? Nonsense! ejaculated Dick. Yes, sir, that's just what she is, said Tad. She's only nineteen, she married my grandfather out of pity, just to take care of him. Well, sighed Dick, I guess I'll stay, in spite of the circum- stances. Dick's vacation went all too quickly. It was within two weeks of ending, just long enough for a-but never mind. About this time Tad went to town very early one day. Stopping at the postoffice he found a letter for him. It was a mere note, but that was sufficient. , Dick and grandmother were spending the rest of the vacation on their honeymoon. They had eloped, and the note was signed, 4'Your loving Grandmother.
