• r ALMA MATER Deep in the Northland, With its hills and mountains grand, Faithful to her people, Tupper High School stands. We, her sons and daughters, Lift our voices to the sky. And the hills re-echo Sending back the cry. Tupper, dear old Tupper, Alma Mater, proud are we. Tupper, dear old Tupper, Thy sons to be. Soon other faces come For we must pass along. And others hail thee After we have gone. And in future years Though we're scattered far and wide At thy call, we'll rally, Tupper, to your side. MAY YOU ALWAYS May you always walk in sunshine, Slumber warm when night winds blow. May you always live with laughter, For a smile becomes you so. May good fortune find your doorway, May the bluebird sing your song. May no troubles travel your way, May no worries stay too long. May your heartaches be forgotten, May no tears be spilled. May old acquaintance be remembered, And your cup of kindness filled. And may you always be a dreamer, May your wildest dream come true. May you find someone to love As much as we love you. TUHISEAN STAFF SEATED: R. DeLair, Assistant Editor; B. Wells, Assistant Business Manager; C. LaFave, Editor; J. Schryver, Business Manager. STANDING: N. Peets, Subscription Editor; J. Spoor, Boys’ Sports Editor; L. Windsor, Literary Editor. The TUHISEAN staff of the class of 59, working in close co-operation with the class and class advisers, has worked many long hours to produce what we think is the best possible TUHISEAN. The senior class showed its willingness to co-operate by selling Christmas cards and putting on dances to raise the necessary funds and our advisers have given us much valuable counsel in setting uj the annual. We of the TUHISEAN staff sincerely hope that this yearbook will be as important to you as it is to us and that you will be as proud of it as we are. DEDICATION MR. ARNOLD DUNN Although he has not been with us very long, Mr. Dunn has had a great influence over our high school years both as a teacher and a friend. As adviser to the Junior class and the National Honor Society he has done us many great services. In order to show our appreciation we, the class of 59 dedicate our TUHISEAN to Mr. Dunn. A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence ends. NO I 1V til SIN IN 0 V Board of Education: Thomas K. Somers, Lee C. Oldfield, Amos J. LaBarge, Earnest J. Wood, and William E. With the help and advising of Mr. Carroll, Mrs. Austin, Mr. Stubley, and Miss Proulx, we began our Senior projects. We chose our TUHISEAN staff and started our Christmas card sale to help finance our yearbook. In addition to this we held the annual Sadie Hawkins dance. The first dramatic assembly of the year was given by our class as we are proud to say, when we presented “The Christmas Angels”. It was a big success. Later in the year we played a basketball game to increase our treasury. It not only was hilarious but very profitable. The Rm. 1 girls played the Rm. 2 girls, die Rm. 1 boys played the Rm. 2 boys and everyone cheered. After a hard played game Rm. 1 turned out victorious. We are looking forward to the Prom, the Senior Banquet and of course graduation. JAMES AMORIELL Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. DICK SANTERRE AND SUSIE BRANCH CLASS OF '59 MOTTO “Where there’s a will, there’s a way. SONG May You Always FLOWER Red Roses COLORS Red and Silver CLASS HISTORY It was in 1955 that the class of '59 first made its entrance into the Senior High School as what we thought was the most fabulous freshman class ever. Being new to the process of self-sufficiency we kept our projects to a minimum with the election of class officers. We elected Gerald Spoor, president; Carol LaFave, vice-president; Gail Raymond, secretary; and Michael Fuller, treasurer. Ronald DeLair took over the office of treasurer in January. The year 1956 saw us as sophomores eager to start in working on new activities. We elected Gail Raymond, president; Carol LaFave, vice-president; Jean Baldwin, secretary; and Jerry Spoor, treasurer. This year we again participated in the Christmas decorations and attempted our first successful moneymaking project by putting on a food sale. We were proud to say that we held the first record hop in the school and we had a large turnout for the dance. Our first dramatic presentation was given that year when we presented a quiz show “Try For Sixteen’ . No one will ever forget how we sang the wrong song at the end of that assembly. Finally 1957 rolled around and this was the big year, the one we had been waiting for. This was the year we were to get our class rings. Immediately after we elected Gail Raymond, president; Ronald DeLair, vice-president; Carol LaFave, secretary; and David Bigrow, treasurer; they got busy and selected our rings with our approval. We decided on a simple square stone with the “Lumberjack emblem on it. With this project completed we turned our attention to the Junior assembly, a variety show of academy awards, which, after much hard work, turned out to be the best, and certainly the most humerous of the year. Our final big event of the year was the prom “Shangri-La into which we poured all of our energy and a great deal of our money from the class treasury. The king and queen that year were Norman Garrelts and Nancy J. Peets from the Senior class and the prince and princess were Tom Nixon and Carol LaFave from our class. Then, suddenly it seemed, there it was, 1958 our Senior and last year of high schooL This year has proved to be our busiest and we have used all our effort and resources to complete the many projects which the class had planned. The first of these, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, was completed soon after we elected David Bigrow, president; Loralee Windsor, vice-president; Jean Baldwin, secretary; and John Schryver, treasurer. Then came our main project, publishing the TUHISEAN. This proved to be quite an undertaking and required the co-operation of the entire class. They proved equal to the task by selecting a capable yearbook staff and helping in various projects to help finance our annual. At Christmas time we presented the first class assembly of the year. “Christmas Angels , a one act play. So many wonderful times were enjoyed by everyone. It seemed like things meant so much more to us than ever before. Making plans for our prom, Senior banquet and graduation was our greatest concern. Now as the class of 59 sadly bids a fond farewell to Tupper High, we look back at all our wonderful years and deep in our hearts we are giving thanks to all our wonderful advisers and teachers who have given us their guidance and friendship. UNDERCLASSMEN The Juniors have been very successful and active this past year with the officers: Richard Trick, President; Linda Currier, Vice-President; June LaValley, Secretary; David Woods, Treasurer, and the Advisers, Mr. Dunn, Mrs. Fee, Mr. Crouse, and Miss Ignatz. We ran the concession stand at every home football game which turned out to be our most profitable project. We also held a very successful record hop. During the Christmas season we took first place with our Junior home room decorations. CLASS OF I960 Mr. Dunn, Miss Ignatz, D. Woods, Treasurer; L. Currier, Vice-President; R. Trick, President; J. LaValley, Secretary; Mr. Crouse, Mrs. Fee. The Sophomore class started off the year of 1959 by electing D. Gagnier, president; S. Gravlin, vice-president; G. Stock, secretary; and S. The following boys were elected to office; Jerry Spoor, president; Tim Bannon, vice-president; Tom Nixon, secretary; and David Bigrow, treasurer. In order to increase school spirit among the students, the boys sponsored a “Booster Day”. They sold ticket tags and encouraged die students to attend the football game between Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake. This project was very successful as there was a large turnout at the game. During the month of November the club sponsored a basketball game between the local Lions Club and Fire Department. This game provided the public with a night of good entertainment as well as netting the boys eighty-five dollars. The club also sponsored a round and square dance and took up the task of selling candy in order to increase their funds. With die money that they received from these projects, eacy boy received a jacket and pin. At the present time they are planning a dinner-dance banquet for the Spring. The Lumberjacks defeated Potsdam for their only victory, but played hard against the other teams and gave each of them a tough game. The present team is composed of many sophomores and Juniors. With these boys returning and a fine group of players coming up from the J. V. 's, the future looks good for Coach Tice as he will have a fine supply of material and experienced players. .V. FOOTBALL McGinn-J. V. Coach The Junior Varsity, coached by Mr. McGinn, finished the season with a very excellent record of four wins, no losses and two ties. They defeated Massena twice and Saranac Lake and Malone once. In the past few years football at Tupper Lake has been declining. However this team has enlightened our spirits and we are sure that these boys will strengthen the Varsity and improve our present ranking. SIX MAN Mr. Quinn-Six Man Coach The Lumberjack basketball team, despite the injuries which hampered them, finished the season with a record of nine wins and seven losses. At the beginning of the season Coach Tice was faced with a job of rebuilding the team, as he had only three veteran players. After getting off to a slow start, the boys' gained the much needed experience and developed into a sound team. The rest of the season the team was on equal status with their opponents, and it wasn't until the last game that they were eliminated from the playoffs. A great deal of credit must be given to Coach Frank Tice and the boys as they played some excellent games and even in defeat they gave a fine account of themselves. Next year we are confident that the team will make the playoffs as they are losing only two players by way of graduation. J. Spoor N. Lamberti T. Bannon Forward Forward Guard R. Koster Center R. Bentley Center Mr. Tice Coach The Tupper Lake “Little Jacks’ finished the 1958-59 season with a record of seven wins and nine loses. Coach Tice lost all his last years team, as every player moved up to Varsity. As a result, he had no returns and had to build the team with unexperienced players. This predicament handicapped the team and was the main reason why their record was not as good as previous J. V. teams. Despite this record, the boys gained the experience which they had lacked. Therefore next year, with these players returning, we believe that they will, without doubt, be one of the top teams in the league. TRACK The Tupper Lake trackmen finished the 1958 season by placing second in the Van Deusen. The team won one and two dual meets during the regular season. The following boys, who placed in the Van Deusen are: Jerry Spoor first in the four forty and Sam Anderson taking fifth, Tim Bannon and Jim Savard tied for third in the pole vault, Richard Santerre placed second in the high jump with Tom Corneau tying for third, Richard Trick was fourth in the broad jump and Ronald Koster took a third in the Half mile. Everyone of these boys will be returning for next year. Coach Tice will therefore be equiped with a great deal of material. We wish them lots of luck. BASEBALL CAFETERIA STAFF: M. Fazio, B.
