During our Senior year, Mr. Baker took a leave of absence to recover from a serious back condition but we hope that he will return to counsel future classes. 4 ADMINISTRATION 1 a m ft FACULTY . • SfeTfi i ■ ; v 1 $ v rv t £ ; v V .V-feV? CLASS HISTORY In 1950, we began our high school years with the election of Earl Dunn as President, Glenda Harris as Vice-President, Lois Bobak as Secretary and James Fletcher as Treasurer. We enthusiastically participated in all sports and activities open to us and climaxed our year with a class party. As Sophomores, we elected Paul Dattola, President; Karlene Girard, Vice-President; Don Bedore, Treasurer; and Lois Bobak, Secretary. Our Junior year was a flurry of activity. Under our capable officers, Earl Dunn, President; Glenda Harris, Vice-President; Lois Bobak, Secretary; and Don Bedore, Treasurer; we successfully put on two square dances and several food sales. But the triumph of our Junior year was oir beautiful Junior Prom. We elaborated on our theme Stairway to the Stars to make the gym into a lovely ballroom for the dancers. The success of our Junior year primed our efforts during our Senior year. We elected a fresh slate of officers: Robert Manning, President; Barbara Savard, Vice-President; Mary Sparks, Secretary; and Robert Boudreau, Treasurer. We went right to work on the Penny Carnival. This was a terrific monetary success. Our next effort was a Square Dance, which also brought in a lot of money. The money made on these activities was put into our Tuhisean fund. The class then elected a Tuhisean Staff which has worked hard and long to make this book a success. We are now looking forward to our Senior Prom and annual Class Banquet, which will take place in June. 20 CLASS PERSONALITIES NAME Alfreda A seel Blanche Badore Donald Bedore Nancy Bellows JoAnne Blanz Neva Bliss Lois Ann Bobak Robert Boudreau Del Boyer Gail Branch Charles Burnham Ronald Carbury Joan Cassidy Imogene Chapman Ruth Chase Watson Cheney Donald Clark Alvin Connor Paul Dattola Carl Dennis Jacqueline Disotell Agnes Dugan Earl Dunn Phyllis Facteau Hubert Felio Karlene Girard Glenda Harris Joan Hesseltine Phillip Hunkins Fenton Johnson Scott Jones Pat LaBounty Rita LaBrie Barbara LaFave Madeline LaFrance Gloria LaPointe Arlene LaValley Robert Manning Ellis Maroun Thomas Maroun Gerald Mayville Clarence Meacham Jane Meacham Barbara Owen Jean Patnode Benny Peets Charles Pisanchin Abby Propp Christina Robistow Edith Roosa Larry Rovito Barbara Savard Nancy Schauble Loren Silliman Nancy Snyder Dan Sovey Mary Sparks Annette St. Onge Roger Trick Elizabeth Wilson PET PEEVE Dorothy” Chemistry Women Mr. Carter People who pronounce my name wrong No gas in the car when I go to drive it My nickname “Louis” Being late for the bus every day Mr. Poulin Big wheels — Bad sports English English Pat Bujold and Jimmy Don Bedore Being called Rita Miss Malakie Nancy LaMere Staying in Women drivers Prof. Poulin History assignments “Lover” “Edith” “Order or get out” “Scrounges” “Rita” Jack Godin Detention Miss Malakie Miss Malakie History Being called Ruth Waiting History Noon in the locker room Saranac Double talk English Mr. Poulin Being broke Girls Mailman Pouting Saranac girls Mary Sparks “That’s Amore” Marines History Absent monitors Mr. Carter Althea Noon in the locker room Crazy mixed up monitor system History Women People who won’t answer my questions Borrowers Futterman’s wine cellar Getting up in the morning FAVORITE PASTIME Laughing with “Girard” Taking pictures Hunting Driving Watching television Writing letters and driving Getting to and from town Hunting and fishing Hunting, fishing and trapping Sports, Being with Chuck Pool Girls Working at the Richer Funeral Home Being with Walter Reading Going to history Teasing Burnham Hunting Football Skating Sitting in Roy’s “Roy’s” Arguing with rtny brother Skiing Talking on the phone Writing letters Watching T.V. with Chucky Hunting and fishing Swimming Golf Riding in a green Chevy Reading Being with Bucky Being with Ken Writing to Dick Being with Warren Boy Scouts Movies Driving Roaming in the halls Hunting Writing letters Writing letters Being with Byron Talking Arguing with the monitors Being with George Week ends Being with Theresa Being with Danny Bowling Hunting and fishing Square Dancing Plaving ping-pong with Bob and Earl Asking questions Baby sitting Listening to popular music Dancing PRIZED POSSESSION My $1.50 allowance A boy named Yvon My gun Beauch’s ring My dog My sisters and brother Memories My gun My gun Chuck, my swimming trophy My gun My car My diary key “Walter” My grandfather’s ring My history book “Joyce” “Annie” Driver’s license Driver’s license Class ring My bunny collar My .30 automatic Driver’s license My skiis My family My ring Chucky’s sweater “Adele” My dog My golf clubs Portable radio My dog My cedar chest My “Mom” “Dick” Warren’s ring My friends Driver’s license Draft Card Pay check My .32 special My class ring My class ring Byron’s ring Golf clubs Future driver’s license Bracelet from Larry Class ring My canary My tatoo Mom and Dad Parents Rifle Letters from Al Compensation checks Oscar, my cat My watch Girls (in general) Locket from Mike 21 I First Row, L. to R.: W. STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council was revived again this year, after it had dropped out of existence a few years ago. Three parties participated in the election and after a week of hectic campaigning, four seniors were voted into office by the student body. Alfreds Aseel became President; Gerald Mayville, Vice-President; Lois Bobak, Secretary and Barbara Savard, Treasurer. Immediately after the home-room representatives were chosen, they began work. The first project undertaken was to raise money in the Public Schools for the CARE fund. Approximately $200.00 was obtained, which was sent to aid people in Europe and Asia. A satisfactory monitor system was set up after Christmas vacation. The administration, faculty and students approved and cooperated with the system. In order to arouse the interest of the students toward dances, the Council sponsored Victory dances after the home basketball games. The Council also sponsored a Valentine Dance February 13, with the help of the classes from Junior and Senior High. The members of the Student Council have worked hard to promote the wishes of the faculty and students and it is our belief that they have done a successful job. First Row, L. to R.: J. Bianca, J. The advisors for the club are Miss Fallon and Mr. Quinn. For the First time in the past few years, the Club has put on an assembly. It was the second assembly of the year. The initiations were held on November 18, and dancing and refreshments were provided that night for everyone. Altogether the Club accepted twelve new members. The Club is only for Junior High students and you are automatically out of it after your ninth year. Early in September of this school year, twenty-four members of the student body banded together to form the Tupper Lake Press Club of l953-54. These students were interested in gaining some knowledge in the field of journalism and in circulating the news of the school. They elected Karlene Girard and Michael Van Vranken as co-editors. Barbara Owen was elected secretary and Hubert Felio treasurer. So far the club has successfully published three issues of the School Buzz, and it has sent a copy of each edition to the Syracuse University School of Journalism for criticism. The work of the Dramatics Club on the Student Council assembly helped start off this new organization. Many students who are not members began, with interest and hard work, to become a part of the Club, Under the supervision of Mr. Kraus, our adviser, the Club has participated in various assemblies, and has had a successful year. The line was all new except for veteran guard Paul Dattola, Captain, who was third string guard on the All-Upstate Team. Honorable mention for the All-Upstate Team went to Bob LaBarge, quarterback, with two year’s experience. The rest of the backfield, Richard Beauchamp, Alvin Connor and Earl Dunn made a good showing in their last year, as did Don Bedore, Paul Dattola and Roger Trick. Mr. Perry, with the aid of Mr. Pat Quinn and Mr. Ted Bayer, piloted the team excellently and provided for good material for next year. With a veteran line and experienced backfield men, the Lumberjacks should do an excellent job next year and stand a chance of conquering the league. Bodah VARSITY CHEERLEADERS To help our great teams on to victory this year, we had a squad of cheerleaders, full of pep and vigor, led by Alfreda Aseel, Captain and Arlene LaValley, Co-Captain. With the help of Mrs. Jay, the girls worked hard to lead the crowds in cheering our teams on during both football and basketball seasons. We wish to say 'thanks’ to these girls for their excellent work, for, without them, enthusiasm and pep would very likely have been lacking during both seasons. The J.V. Cheerleaders this year, though inexperienced, since the majority of them are freshmen, did a wonderful job in cheering their team on to victory. Proof of their ability lies in the fact that the J.V. basketball team has suffered only one loss out of 65 games played. With the help of Mrs. Jay, Captain Joan Hesseltine, and Co-Captain Barbara Owen, these girls have developed marvelous skill and will make excellent Varsity Cheerleader material next year. J. V. Among the many activities sponsored by the G.A.A. were bowling, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and several ocher sports. The various pictures you see on the follow-ing pages are of the winning teams in these sports. Also sponsored by the association was a softball sports night which, of course, was a great success. The chance to be a member of the G.A.A. is both a privilege and an honor to every girl in high school. It is one of the school’s most active organizations and plays an extremely important part in all school functions.
