September, 1948, and the last lap of the school journey began. These Seniors were trying hard to make this, their last year, the best. Howard Stephens and his football playing brought glory to T. H. S.g the HI-TIMES with Nona Ewing as Editor moved into the ranks of a first-class newspaperg those long-awaited exemptions finally rolled around-at least to a lucky few. The last days in Tupelo High were filled with memorable events. Tonight We Dance, the Senior play, was an entertainment long to be remembered by both the actors and the audience. Then in rapid succession came the baccalaureate sermon and the final achievement- graduation. To the familiar strains of Pomp and Circumstancen the class of 1949, diplomas clutched tightly in their hands, moved slowly from the auditorium, leaving behind them twelve happy years.
