T1 The 1985-86 Tumwater Marching Band placed first at the Kingbowl AA Field Show competition for the second consecutive year. The combined band and drill teams practiced nine hours a week outside of school, which paid off with the state championship. Winning the state title paid off also when the T-Bird band and drillteam was invited to perform at halftime of a Seattle Seahawks game, an experience not soon forgotten. They also competed in other field shows, performed at concerts and halftimes and marched in parades.

Coach: Jeannie Hayden Receiving the Kingbowl Marching Championship for the second consecutive year along with awards from other competitions was the well deserved recognition for the hard work and dedication of the drill team. The team spent over 500 hours on the football field with the band learning, practicing and perfecting their succesful routine. Led by captains Linda Thomas and Kelly Doelman, the drill team headad into the gym to work on their basketball half time performances and their state competition rountine. They concluded their year by rejoining the band and marching in parades in the spring and summer. 149

String Orchestra Dresses up TI-IS The orchestra was a new addition to the music department. They performed at the Winter Assembly and at the music concerts. They also performed in the halls before school and for the humanities program. Band instructor Denny Womac was the director.
