Asst, Superintendent Norm Wisner Superintendent Achievement of excellence by students, teachers and support staff provided the general theme for the Tumwater School District during the 85-86 year. By concentrating on individual achievement, the entire organization and the people it served benefited through increased effectiveness. The district's commitment to personal achievement was centered in its annual Goals Project, through which individuals and various building staffs and support areas worked as seperate but coordinated teams to deal with district wide program needs. Working through principals, teachers, service personnel, parents and the community, the district evaluated its programs and made changes which were necessary to best meet student and societal needs. Major goals for 85-86 included review of curricula and adoption of new programs in a wide array of subject areas, provision of increased opportunities for staff in in- service and development, review of facilities' needs for both short and long range purposes and analysis of budget and financial needs. Individual and building objectives in turn, reflected these major goals. The Tumwater District also opened the new Michael T. Simmons Elementary School and High School stadiumfclass- roomfrecreation complex, began using newly remodeled facilities at Tumwater Middle School and coordinated construction and program planning for the New Market Skills Center. 101
