Among the new projects attempted were a formal candle-light initiation ceremony, development of a theme song for use with each program, and a television program. Wire and live broadcasts were presented in assembly, including a humorous script survey re- viewing highlights of T. C. S. since the last school year, some original student-written take-oll's of current air shows and a serious dramatized appeal for support of the Child- ren's Crusade to Vienna, Austria. The club was divided into three staffs representing acting. script-writing and technical effects, and as many as 35 students with speaking parts par- ticipated in one broadcast. Twenty nine

LOCKE MEMORIAL SPEAKING CONTEST The Sophomore speaking contest was held in Tully Central School auditorium on May fl, l950. This activity is limited to sophomores who present character sketches. Mrs. M. S. Richards acted as the judge and Mr. Moore coached the contestants. First prizes were awarded to Betty Aungier and Philip Michelson, and second, to -lane Brenchley and Douglas Scott. JUNIOR-SENIOR SPEECH TOURNAMENT Tully's Fourteenth Annual junior-Senior speaking contest was held in the school audi- torium cn Monday evening, February 20. This activity is a natural outgrowth of an original romposition unit based on individual research in the school library. Carol Carlton and David White won first prizes, with Barbara Carlton and Davey Ventoii receiving the second awards. Professor Edward McEvoy from Syracuse University judged the contest and Mrs. Austin, Mr. Pearse, and Mr. Ferguson coached the contestants. Prizes were furnished by the Tully Branch of the Syracuse Trust Company and Mr. N. Finkler. Twenty eight

The Tully Band, under the direction of Mr. Stokoe, with President -lanet Usher, Vice- President Bill Youngblood and Secretary-'lireasurer Dick Hoefer, entered into many activities this year. One of the first was the participation of two members, lrene Briggs playing flute and Richard Hoefer playing cornet, in the All-State Band program held at Canandaigua, N. Y. November I8 and I9. 'l'hen the entire band played at t-he -Iunior-Senior Speaking Contest February 20, l950, and the German band played for the Circus held by the Seniors in October. For March 20. a scholarship ticket for an all Mozart concert which was held at Lincoln by the Syracuse Symphony Society lnc. to Irene Briggs, who was music student of T. C. S. Auditorium, was presented selected as the outstanding Opportunity Night at 'l'. C. S. proved to be entertaining with a trumpet trio and drmn obligato with Bob Cornue, Bill Youngblood and Dick Hoefer playing trumpets and Davey Venton the drmns. The County Festival held at Syracuse University was a big event with the band partici- pating and lrene Briggs' flute and Dick Creen's trombone taking part in the All-County Hand Concert. A special assembly for the grades was presented with instrumental demonstrations given, and on May I2 and I3 the band entered the Spring Festival at Syracuse University. Also Music Night was .june 0. Many ensembles have appeared for grade programs, giving those not in the band a chance to perform. Much time has been spent reading over recent band publications, with emphasis on improving sight reading facilities. The band has worked very hard this year and feel that they have accomplished nmch under the excellent direction of Mr. Stokoe. l 1 l Thirty
