LOCKE MEMORIAL SPEAKING CONTEST The Sophomore speaking contest was held in Tully Central School auditorium on May fl, l950. This activity is limited to sophomores who present character sketches. Mrs. M. S. Richards acted as the judge and Mr. Moore coached the contestants. First prizes were awarded to Betty Aungier and Philip Michelson, and second, to -lane Brenchley and Douglas Scott. JUNIOR-SENIOR SPEECH TOURNAMENT Tully's Fourteenth Annual junior-Senior speaking contest was held in the school audi- torium cn Monday evening, February 20. This activity is a natural outgrowth of an original romposition unit based on individual research in the school library. Carol Carlton and David White won first prizes, with Barbara Carlton and Davey Ventoii receiving the second awards. Professor Edward McEvoy from Syracuse University judged the contest and Mrs. Austin, Mr. Pearse, and Mr. Ferguson coached the contestants. Whittemore, C. Parcells. Missing: B. Drake, D. Fitzpatrick, I. Hobart. 'l'he Radio Club reorganized this year under two new advisers, Mr. Owens and Mr. IN-arse. Among the new projects attempted were a formal candle-light initiation ceremony, development of a theme song for use with each program, and a television program. Wire and live broadcasts were presented in assembly, including a humorous script survey re- viewing highlights of T. C. S. since the last school year, some original student-written take-oll's of current air shows and a serious dramatized appeal for support of the Child- ren's Crusade to Vienna, Austria. The club was divided into three staffs representing acting. script-writing and technical effects, and as many as 35 students with speaking parts par- ticipated in one broadcast. Twenty nine
