A Not So Trivial Pursuit 1985 HORNET Tulia High School Tulia, Texas Uolume 36 Published by Taylor Publishing Co. TABLE OF CONTENTS Characters 7 Seniors 8 Juniors 28 Sophomores 36 Freshmen 44 Faculty and Administration 52 Deeds and Feats 57 Establishments 79 Recreation 107 “A Not-So-Trivial Pursuit” was chosen by the Annual Staff as the theme for this year’s annual. This theme was chosen because we feel that in today’s preoccupation with trivia questions and other trivial matters, the students at Tulia High School are in pursuit of more than mere trivia. Life at T.H.S. is composed of many worthwhile and ex- citing activities, none of which are trivial. Whether it be classes, clubs, sports, or honors; the activities that our students are involved in are very important. People at T.H.S. find nothing trivial about pursuing their interests. The faculty and students here are all very special and non- trivial people, and they make Tulia High School what it is — a not-so-trivial place to be. 1. Brian and Tami win at Valentine Dance. 2. Bethany hurries to class. 3. Coach Prater plans the game. 4. Janna smiles for the judge. 5. Giving orders again! 6. Fred enjoys his gift at NHS party. 7. Danny tries to be cool. 8. Lorette takes typing seriously. 9. Jona loves art class. 10. Lots of “fans” showed up during basketball 1. Mindi and Angie receive band awards. 2. Metal Trades do good at contest. 3. The guys hang out” in Auto Mechanics. 4 Laura and Kippi enjoy F.T.A. — especially the pizza. 5. Terry really did graduate! 6. Charmayne makes the most of the DECA tnp. 7. Stephanie loves the Bunny Hop! THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY, OR “CHARACTERS” IN TULIA HIGH SCHOOL ARE VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE WHO MAKE THIS SCHOOL UNIQUE. EVERYONE CONTRIBUTES SOMETHING TO OUR SCHOOL IN THEIR OWN WAY. NO STUDENT PLAYS A TRIVIAL ROLE IN THE PURSUIT OF THEIR DREAMS AND AMBITIONS IN TULIA HIGH SCHOOL. Seniors Senior Class Officers: Trent Morris, President; Tina Garcia, Secretary. Not Pictured: Stanna Cobb, Vice-President The Tuiia High School Seniors finally arrived at their long-awaited last year. Even though they spent some of their time doing trivial things, there was still much to keep the seniors busy. Planning for college, ordering invitations and caps and gowns, and finally . . . Graduation — all were important aspects of the Senior year. All in all, everyone felt their Senior year was definitely a not-so-trivial part of high school! 8 Senior Class Favorites: Tony Powell and CoCo Hurd Cyrus W. Allen Alice DeAnda Alvarez Miles D. I knew since the first time I saw you and talked to you, I said to myself. Now there’s a true friend. A friend is someone who cares, loves you, and you can count on. So far you have proved to me all of those things. A friendship can be so beautiful if you look at it right and share it the right way with that person. We have had good and bad times, but we have love in be tween. I know someday we all have to go our ways. But if I go first, I will always think of you, but if you go with someone you love may he love you like I do. If I go away too, well and if 1 go up there with our Father above, well just think of me like I went on a trip far, far away but don’t ever forget that in this trip I can’t ever come back, but you someday too will also take the same trip and we shall meet again. Remember me smiling and laughing or don’t remember me at all. Because that’s the way I would remember you when I go on my trip, and if you ever feel like talking, crying, or laughing with someone, think of me. I’ll be right beside you my friend. I’ll be with you day and night. Don’t ever ever forget my friend, I am your friend forever. Next on the agenda was the District F.T.A. convention at West Texas State University. David Webb was elected District President and Angela Cobb was elected state voting delegate. Angie Stewart introduced the new constitution as the chairperson of the commit- tee. The chapter’s scrapbook prepared by A. Cobb and S. Brooks placed first and advanced to state competition. When Christmas rolled around, the party was at Christi Borchardt’s home. Games such as Train, Parkbench, and “If you love me, honey, smile,’ were played. On Valentine’s Day, 18 members and 2 sponsors loaded up on the “Yellow Dog” and traveled to Ft. Worth for the State Convention. Weeks of Campaign planning paid off when David Webb was elected State Financial Secretary. The scrapbook placed in the top ten. There was a formal installation of the 1985-86 officers. Webb winning an office. 85 STATE CONVENTION Accomplishments Accomplishments: David Webb ran for financial secretary and was suc- cessfully elected. The chapter scrap- book, put together by Angela Cobb and Sherri Brooks, received an award for being in the top ten of the state. Angela, David and Angie Stewart were state voting delegates. Angie and Scot Swinburn competed in the Mr. and Miss FTA contest. Scot placed in the top 5 and Angie placed in the top ten. Members of the campaign skit, which went over very well with the convention audience, were John Bush, Kippi Crooks, Marli George, Todd Sanders, and Laura Foreman. Highlights of the Trip The group was treated to supper at the Fuz- zy Reagor home in Seymour the first night. Then they went on to Fort Worth where they stayed at the Americana Hotel. Students at- tended seminars, meetings, a dance, and cam- paigned for David Webb. While in Fort Worth, they ate at Joe T. Garcia’s and toured Billy Bob’s. When they were half an hour out of Fort Worth, they realized they had forgotten Kristi Davenport and Sheryl Evans.
