As we stood there, on graduation night, and looked around us at all the faces we knew, we were reminded of another day when those faces were unfamiliar and how very scared we were on our first day at Sabin. lt's odd to realize that at that time we were just a group of Freshies , rather than the inter- esting individuals we later proved ourselves to be. As we looked around us, we didn't know that that tall boy over there, laughing, and waiting for the Sabin express elevator, was inevitably to be called Nutzie , or that that black-haired chap des- perately looking for the Boy's Gym, was a composer as well as a pianist,-Phil Dunn. And over there making all those kids laugh, why that was Galletti of course, spreading joy. Those two girls by the piano looked promising, one with laughing eyes, singing, and the other rather pensive-looking, feeling the music on the piano, Yolanda Sacco and Ann Daffner. That serious looking boy, standing in the long line for lunch-we never dreamed that four years from then we would be seeing Iames Meyer playing the lead in Dickens' Christmas Carol. Was it possible that with all that noise someone was trying to study? And trigonometry at that - You're right: it was Matlow who, of course, is now referred to as just brain . Remember our first experience as a mighty sen- ior A? We all felt proud, of course, but not too proud, for we unconsciously realized that we were setting an example for the underclassmen, with Har- dison and Failla going all out for football, and Novick, Antman, Meyer, Nutzie, and Heller doing their part to support the basketball team Then too we had our senior co-editors of the Review, Iewel Flowers and Elaine Gerald, enthusiastically making a special ef- fort to add new interest to our school paper Our 4A's demonstrated their mental ability in the heated discussion at the Atomic Energy as- sembly as well as proving their dramatic ability in the ever-memorable portrayal of A Christmas Carol . It was one of our 4A girls, Gloria Rheynard, who received the D. A. R. award in the Senior competition. Yes, we tried hard to set a fine example. Remember that ghastly day when a strange urge possessed the Senior A girls who presented them- selves one fine day in October of '45, minus makeup and definitely plus large plaid-shirts? We laugh when we remember that. Widfdflq A certain Senior A division, when at Sabin, will never forget that mad scrap-drive they so earnestly went all out for. Their efforts were rewarded when they realized the fact that they had won. Remember how excited we were when prom talk started spreading? It seemed years before Iune 8 came, and when it did come, the La Salle Hotel was filled with the soft, dancing, chiffon figures of the senior beauties. For the girls were extra-beautiful that night and all the boys were definitely on the Gable side. Memories-things of the past that may become so real when thought of. Each Senior A student has his own very special thrills and memories which are a part of his Class History . S But while our class was making history, so was our nation. Great and memorable events occurred, though often diastrous ones such as the fall of Bataan, Corregidor, and Midway. These, rather than deflating the enthusiasm of the students, served as an incentive for a more zealous spirit. With the arrival of D-day, our speedy advance into Berlin, the unfortunate death of our president, and VE Day more and more of our friends went all out for active duty while we performed our home front duties to the best of our ability. As the war continued, our class, like all other high-school students proved that they could take it and above all that they could dish it out . Without doubts that alone made obvious the fact a group of young people can be big enough, at least in spirit, to take a war in its stride and profit by the realization that working together in unity for a mutual cause can enormously increase our understanding of each other and of the nation. V-I Day held a great significance for all of us and gave us a thrill which we will never again feel. Soon after we returned to school in September, we were measured for our caps and gowns, our rings were ordered, and Class Night rehearsals began. The day of graduation grew nearer. We began doing each thing for the last time and in doing so fully real- ized all the previous fun we had in our four years. We all had that same intangible queer feeling as we heard together the strains of Auld Lang Syne, on Class Night, and knew that nothing could ever exceed the thrill it was: just being a member of our class of '46.
