MC CULLOUGH, U.S. Navy is a native of Buffalo, New York, son of Robert and Ethel McCullough. Commander McCullough first entered the U.S. Army in 1945, serving as a tank driver with the Second Infantry Division. He sub- sequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a seaman in October 1947. He attained the grade of Radarman Chief before receiving his commis- sion as Ensign in June 1957. . His sea assignments have been many and varied. They include the USS RICH QDD-820l, USS GREEN QDD-711l, Fleet Composite Squadron FOUR, USS CORALSEA QCVA-43l, USS NORTHHAMPTON QCLC-U, USS MERRICK QAKA-973, USS MAHONINGQLST-9141, USS HENRY COUNTY QLST-824l. ln June 1961 he assumed command of the USS THRASHER QMSC-203i and in August the same year, the USS UMPQUA QATA-2091. From October 1963 until October 1965, Commander MCCULLOUGH served on the Staff, Commander, Mine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet as the Current Operations Officer. In February 1966 to March 1967 he served as the Chief Staff Officer for Task Group 116.2 then in the Republic of Vietnam. In March 1967 he assumed Command of the USS PRESERVER CARS-81. In May 1968 he reported to the Naval Officer Training Center, New Port, Rhode Island where he was the Director of the Vietnamese Naval Officer Training Program. From June 1972 to April 1974 Commander McCullough was in command of Beachmaster Unit ONE. He assumed command of USS TULARE QLKA-112, in May 1974. Commander MCCULLOUGH has been awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Cita- tion, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Silver Star and Combat Action Ribbon. ln addition his list of campaign and service medals include American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, China Service, Navy Occupation Service, World War Il Victory, National Defense with Bronze Star, Good Conduct with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign. He is married to the former Joan Lee Eisenhart of Danville, New York. They have two sons and four daughters. One son and three daughters are residing with Com- mander and Mrs. MCCULLOUGH in San Diego, California.
