LT Basset Deck Dept. Officer ENS Cauluwe rt Deck Dept. Admin. Asst. DECK TULARE's presence in the West- ern Pacific made available to United States Forces a large, car- go-carrying potential. Loaded with hundreds of Marines and tons of their combat equipment, TULARE was ready at any time to support an amphibious operation where that might have been necessary. For this purpose, TULARE's main battery was her landing craft and her primary strength, her cargo carrying ability. The men on the following pages are those who made this readiness possible in the Deck Department. The First and Second Divisions were responsible for six cargo holds, booms and rigging. Third Division manned and main- I tained all landing craft.
