CLASS HISTORY September 4, 1956, was the day twenty-one scared, green freshmen climbed the stairs of Tulare High. They were Gary Ames, Larry Binger, Gloria Blume, Keith Buch- holz, Joan Christenson, Dennis Cockrell, Gary Erlandson, Gary Frankenstein, Douglas Henze, Thomas Hinde, Kenneth Hofemann, Faye Kloss, Joan Kopplin, Larry Kopplin, Kurt Langbehn, Donald Miller, Janice Ost, Mary Jean Steinheuser, Ronald Wagner, Constance Walz, and Janet Wendland. Class officers chosen were: Faye, pres., Gary E., vice-pres., and Janet, sec. -treas. Faye was also treasurer of band. The biggest high- light to begin the year was initiation. Faye was Princess, Mary, Queen's attendant, and Kurt, King's attendant for the Sweetheart's Ball. The boys participating in football were Gary E. , Kurt, Dennis, Gary A. , Larry B., Don, Doug, Keith and Kenny. The same boys plus Gary F. , Larry K. , Ronnie and Tom took part in basketball. All the boys but Doug went out for track. All boys were members of the T Club. All the girls participated in girls' phys. ed. Faye was a cheerleader. Those participating in band were Faye, Janet, Gloria, Larry B., Gary F., Mary, Kurt, Joan, Connie, Joan, Lar- ry K. and Keith. Those in Declam were Connie, Kenny, Tom, Mary and Keith. Our freshman class advisor was Mr. Kunz. The year ended with a picnic at the schoolhouse because of the weather. All of us returned for the sophomore year but Tom Hinde and Gary Erlandson. Judy Hansen, Arlen Jessen, and DeVerne Kludt also joined the class. Officers for the year were: Janet, pres., Don, vice-pres., and Mary, sec. -treas. Janet was Princess, Faye, Queen's attendant, Kurt, King's attendant, and Don, Prince, for the Sweetheart's Ball. Boys taking football were Don, Larry B., Ronnie, Kenny, Keith, Kurt, Larry K. , Gary F., Gary A. and Dennis. The same boys except Larry K. plus DeVerne Kludt took basketball. The same boys took part in track. Doug acted as student man- ager. All the girls were in girls' phys. ed. Janet and Faye were cheerleaders. Those playing in the band were Joan, Gloria, Joan, Janet, Keith, Judy, Mary, Larry, Connie, Faye, Gary and Kurt. Chorus was started this year with Joan, Judy, Connie, Joan, Janet, Janice, Faye, Mary, Kurt, Larry, Don and Gary singing in the chorus. Several of the class took chorus and band solos. Those in Declam were Gloria, Judy, Keith, Faye, Connie and Mary. Gloria acted as librarian. Home ec. was started this year with all the girls participating. F. F. A. and agriculture were also started with all boys taking part. Mr. Grubl acted as our class advisor. The year came to a close with a very en- joyable picnic at Cottonwood Lake. Everyone returned for the junior year but Arlen Jessen and DeVerne Kludt. Class officers were: Mary, pres., Larry, vice-pres., and Don, sec. -treas. Kurt acted as Student Council representative. All the boys but Doug took part in football, basketball, track, and he acted as student manager. All boys took part in the T Club. Faye, Janet, and Joan were cheerleaders. The same students again took part in band and the same in chorus except Judy. Gloria again acted as librarian. Those in Declam were Keith, Gloria, Connie, Judy, Faye and Joan. We, this year, had the experience of putting on our play, Accidental Hero , which we enjoyed and was a big success. F. H.A. was started this year with all the girls taking part. Several boys were again in agriculture and F. F.A. Queen's attendant was Mary for the Sweetheart's Ball, at which time the sextet, composed of mostly our class, sang. The thing most remembered during this year was putting on our Banquet and Prom with the theme Rendezvous with Don Warren providing the music. The junior class advisors were Mr. and Mrs. Simek. The year was drawn to a close with a very cold picnic at Cottonwood Lake. The entire class returned for the senior year, making eighteen seniors. Don was class president and Kurt Student Council president. All boys but Doug took part in football, basketball and track. Doug acted as student manager. All the boys participated in the T Club. One of the highlights of the senior year was Janet being chosen queen and Larry king of our Sweetheart's Ball. Kurt, Don, Faye and Janice were attendants. Joan, Faye, Judy, Gloria and Keith took part in Declam. Mary Jean was selected Homemaker of Tomorrow. Janet was our DAR candidate. Mary, Faye, Janet and Joan were our cheer- leaders. The senior class presented their play, Creeping Shadows by Germaine Haney, which was a big success. All the girls again took part in girls' physical education. Gloria again acted as librarian. Those in band were Faye, Judy, Kurt, Larry, Joan, Connie, Joan, Gary, Janet, Gloria and Keith. Those singing in chorus were Connie, Joan, Judy, Keith, Faye, Mary, Kurt, Janet, Larry and Joan with Janice accompanist. On May 7, the juniors gave a very beautiful Banquet and Prom in our honor. Baccalaureate was held on Sunday, May 15, in the All Purpose Room, and Commencement was held on Wednesday, May 18. An enjoyable picnic ended our high school activities.
