l4 genie: 31155 19,13t02q It was a bright August 31, 1953, when nine scared, green freshmen entered the doors of Tu- lare High School. They were: Lanny Binger, Marlys Block, Rosella Feldsien, Margaret Mac- Neill, Lona Haag, Barbara Morse, Roger Nowell, Mary Lou Warfield, and Stanley Steinheuser. We became full pledged members of T. H. S. with an initiation party, at which time we honored the upperclassmen with a program. Margaret was our class president. All of the boys and girls participated in phys. ed. Rosella, Margaret, Barbara, Lona, Stanley, and Lanny were mem- bers of the band. Marlys was majorette 0f the band. All of the girls took part in the Glee Club. Marlys and Mary Lou went out for Declam. Barbara and Roger were king and queen candidates this year. Our freshman year ended successfully with a picnic at Lake Kampeska. The beginning of the sophomore year, Layne Hopkins transferred from Boone, Iowa, into our class. Barbara and Rosella did not return. Marlys, Margaret, and Lona took part in girls' phys. ed. All of the boys played basketball. Mary Lou was in Declam. This year the T Club was organized for the athletic boys. Layne was president of the class. Margaret and Stanley were the king and queen candidates. Our school picnic was held at Cottonwood Lake. In our junior year Duane Radcliffe transferred from Los Angeles, California, to our Class, making nine juniors. All of the boys participated in phys. ed. Football was organized this year for the boys. Marlys, Margaret, and Lona played basketball. Lona, Mary Lou, Lanny, Duane, Margaret, and Marlys were members of the band. Lona was elected Cheerleader. Layne was vice -president of the Student Council, and Lona was secretary-treasurer. Lona and Layne were king and queen attendants. Lanny and Lona were Chosen to represent our school at Boys' and Girls' State. The junior play, The Black Derby , was a huge success. The juniors worked hard in preparing a nice banquet for the seniors. Our banquet theme was Candyland . We went to Ruskin Park for our school picnic. Mary Lou did not return the senior year. Barbara Morse , Sharon Hinde , and Jim Ernster joined our Class. Arvis Walker transferred from Blunt the second semester. Lona, Marlys, and Sharon participated in girls' phys. ed. All of the boys went out for boys' phys. ed. Lanny, Lona, Marlys, Margaret, Duane, Barbara, and Arvis were members of the band. Duane took part in Declam. Layne was chosen president of our class and vice -president of the Student Council. Marlys was elected Student Council president. Lona and Sharon were Cheerleaders. Margaret was chosen D. A. R. representative. Marlys and Layne were chosen king and queen of the Sweethearts Ball. We were honored with a banquet put on by the junior Class. Baccal- aureate was held Sunday evening May 19 and Commencement May 22. An enjoyable time was spent at our last school picnic. CLASS MOTTO: Today determines tomorrow. CLASS COLORS: Silver and Pink. CLASS FLOWER: Pink Carnation.
