It is an island between two worlds where opposing ideologies, cultures and races live together for mutual financial gain. The population is approximately 3.5 million, the largest proportion being the one million refugees who have fled to Hong Kong since 1949 when the Communists completed their seizure of the Chinese mainland. For the novice, it was a chance to make new acquaintances 4, and see one of the great countries of the 1' world. From the Budda at Komakura, to gf ground zero at Nagasaki, to the Ginza at Tokyo, TULARE sailors had the oppor- fl tunity to see much of J apan. if 1 1 f Long months of waiting and saving were 1 rewarded as TULARE sailed into Yokosuka in August. Her famous A33 was once again ti stormed by TULARE sailors. Last minute stereo purchases followed by habachi pots Tv and china were the order of the day. As 5 TULARE Sailecifrom Yoko, Mt.
