PURTS BANGKOK Beautiful and fabulous Bangkok was the answer to a photographers dream. The city, containing nearly 2 million people, is located on a calm, muddy, winding, twisting river about 15 miles from the Northern coast of the Gulf of Siam. The cruise alone up the river was worth the entire trip. Lush vega- tation, wood shacks, palm trees, temples, buddist priests on small boats, and Thai gunboats of World War I vintage made the shutters click as TULARE steamed up the river. The city itself is a collection of shopping districts, shanty towns and temples. There are over 300 temples in the city and each is a maze of intricate colors.
