When underway, eight fixes are taken each day to determine TULARE's exact position. All together, TULARE's quarter- masters took over 1500 fixes, involving nearly 2400 individual star shots, as well as hundreds of fixes based upon the electron- ic aides of radar and loran. Running the ship's office of TULARE is a demanding task for X Division. During the cruise the yeomen and personnel men wore out five typewriters in theinwork of handling over 1500 pieces of official mail, making over 5000 service record entries, and re- ceiving and transferring 80 amen. TULARE's postal clerk received over 10,000 pounds of mail and dispatched over 5,000 pounds. In addition, he sold nearly 585,000 of stamps and money orders. FW' I I J I 0 . -.
