Q 1 it Q ..., L ' K ' ' ' 'WSSHQII-a:SZ -- J s A - . ,V-M , -f - Star With the completion of Blue Star on the Zfth. of March, we began our backloading from Kaohsiung where we embarked MAG ll. once again for transportation to Subic Bay. After a rapid debarkation of MAG ll -he Tulare left Subic for Kaohsiung once yirfrcf to embark the 7th Communication Fattolion for eight days of upkeep from the Grd to the llth of April. During this period our hopes and anticipations grew as the llth of April and the date for our finial leparture for home grew near. While w. ffl at Subic the men of the Tulare chipped anc- painted her inside anc. out from stem to stern and from top to foottom. Subic also provided us the opportunity to get in some swimming, sun bathing, softball, golf, fly- ing and tennis. Finally, on the early morn of ll April under the light of a nearly full moon the Big slipped guietly out of Subic Bay and began her l9 day trek across the Pacific for San Diego and our loved ones. -1 iz.. .- 2 asketball Throughout our stay in WestPac sports ac- tivities played an important role in occupying our time and cementing good relations during our Good Will tour of Iapan. The ship's basket- ball team compiled an impressive record of 8 wins and 2 defeats against other ship's teams and Iapanese teams. Thanks to number four hold the Tulare's team had their own basket- ball court wherein many practice sessions were held. Coach Young gave the team many point- ers and Cook, Big Mac and Carmichael led the team in scoring.
