No ship is complete unless she has a great deal of auxiliary equipment to drive such items as emergency generators, the slfip's looats, ship's steering gear, the re- 'll-Q9I'CIll1'1Q' gear to name but a few. The grease monkeys of the A Division, one of the largest divisions on board, are charged with the upkeep of this equipment and it is no small job. The R Division is responsible for the general ,repair oi the ship which includes the maintenance of watertight integrity. ln addition, f this divi- sion does all welding, cuts all steel, main- tains all atomic, biological, and chemical- warfare defense equipment and main- tains and 4 repairs all fire fighting equip- ment. Schoonover. A ship runs on steam and so someone has to make it tor someone to use. The men ot the B Division work in the depths of the tire room where they tend the boilers which generate the steam. This task is not as easy as it sounds as -many changes have ,to be made in the tiring -of a boiler as a ship changes speeds. Woodyatt, R. Hart. C. Reed. X The ship's Electricians of the E Division operate all ship's service generators and switchboards to provide power to the many locations on the ship. In addition, the maintenance of the many electrical motors and cables on board, particularly those associated with the hatch winches, falls under the cognizance of this division, Such items as ship's navigational lights and lighted signalling equipment are also checked daily by the Electricians. The IC Electricians maintain the ship's gyroscop-Ere, sound powered phones and their associated circuits, elenclrical communication CMCJ systems and emergency alarm systems.
