n u accompanied by the Tulane Band, sang the Univer- sity ' s A ma Mater during tlie half at the Home- coming Football Game, the onlookers beheld the finest spectacle ever before witnessed at such an observance. Mention here must be made of the tremendous increase in the display of school spirit. Several bonfires followed by parades did much to amplify the Tulane and Newcomb cheering sections at the various athletic events. The Tulane Gym was filled to capacity for all the basketball games and boxing matches. It is our belief that such moral support did much to accentuate the extremely successful athletic teams which the University enjoyed during its 103rd year. Space does not permit further enumeration of the many highli ghts of the 1936-1937 session. The editors sincerely trust that this brief outline will call forth the entirety of a signal year, during which Tulane University has maintained its status as one of the finest centers for educational enlightenment. On February 24, 1937, the Board of Administra- tors announced the election of Dean Rufus Carroll- ton hHarris, A.B., LLB., Juris.D., LL.D., of the College of Law as President of the University, effective June 9, 1937. The evening of October 30, the College of Law awarded honorary doctorates to Dr. Pound, Associate Justice Lummus and Ralph J. Schwarz, a prominent local attorney. Not only did the commemoration afford the stu- dents of the University an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the immortal words of Edward Living- ston, but also to give ear to the greatest legal genius of modern times — Dr. Pound. Another noteworthy advancement during the 1936-1937 session was the enlargement and in- creased repertoire of the three main musical or- ganizations of the University — The Tulane Band, The Tulane Glee Club, and The Newcomb Glee Club, each of which is under the able direction of May- nard Klein. The Tulane Band, having more than doubled itself in size, now consists of 92 newly uni- formed men. The Tulane Glee Club, possessing a repertoire which would permit it to sing a capelia choral music one evening and negro spirituals the next, has evolved into an organization of 60 highly trained male voices. The Newcomb Glee Club has more than upheld the worthy precedent which it has set during the many years of its existence. Each of these organizations has performed a complete schedule of concerts and has been heard several times over the various radio stations of New Or- eans.
