n vy lnx 4n tUe Pne AxiLe ii v The vicissitudes of life frequently entail the separation of fami- lies and close friends. With new environments and different condi- tions, in time the close friendships of our college days are apt to become memories v hlch we, however, always treasure. The session of 1936-1937 has been memorable for two outstand- ing events, both in the nature of commemorative exercises. The Col- lege of Law celebrated the I 00th anniversary of the death of Ed- ward Livingston, that adopted son of Louisiana who laid the founda- tion of our Louisiana Civil Code. At this celebration honorary de- grees were conferred upon three outstanding members of the leaal profession. Newcomb College is now celebrating the Fiftieth Anniversary of its founding as a memorial to hi. Sophie Newcomb, the beloved daughter of the founder, Josephine Louise Newcomb. Of special significance at this important event, were the conferring of an hon- orary degree on a woman distinguished in the medical profession and the touching address of Dr. B. V. B. Dixon, the first and only presi- dent of Newcomb College. These and other Important events in the life of our university are recorded both in pictures and words in the pages of this Jamba- laya which when opened in the years to come will make us relive a year of our campus life, and I sincerely trust will bring back to you only happy recollections. ROBERT L. MENUET, Acting President.
