Hi:l-iitei,, Ph.D. Dean of tlie Colti-ijr of Arts and Sciences College oi Arts and Sciences The College of Arts and Sciences is, with the exception of Newcomb College, the largest College of the University, with an enrollment of some 525 students and a faculty of more than 40. This College offers a wide opportunity for thorough training in language, literature, the social sciences, and the laboratory sciences. Its purpose is to prepare men for research work in the graduate schools, or for admission to professional study, or for a business career. The Pre-Medical Courses give a thorough preparation tor the study of Medicine, while other courses provide for the needs of tho.se who pi,i]i to enter upon the stud of I„iw. 14

Tlu ' purpose of the Collfjic of Law is to educate men for successful practice in tlie courts of I ouisiana anil in the Federal courts. In all courses .special attention is paid to the Louisiana statutes and decisions, but this in no way lessens the value of such courses for students who come from other states. The aim of the College is through the study and analysis of cases, to develop a lefjal mind and to ground it in legal principles. To this end the college has selicted instructors for their fitness to te.icli and to train and for their willingness to devote themselves enthusiastically to these subjects. The college provides a large and well .selected librar by the use of which students become familiar with the extensive sources of the law and learn how to find the law.
