MEN’S BASKETBALL Led by Co-Capts. BILL GORRA, senior, and MARK CRAIGWELL, junior, the Tufts University basketball team won 15 of its first 19 games and rose to the top of the New England polls. Twice during the season the Jumbos set single game scoring records, by beating Mass. Maritime 113-91, and then Curry College, 118-86. A strong bench led by senior MIKE RUBIN helped the Jumbos upset two nationally ranked teams; Springfield, 80-66, for the Manhattanville College Alumni Tournament, and Bran¬ ded, 83-79. MEN’S TRACK (RECORD 7-3) Led by Co-Capt. DAVE LEE, who was undefeated in the 1000-yard run and only once defeated in the mile during dual meet competition, Tufts’ indoor track team posted its best record in five years. Other standouts for the team in¬ cluded long and triple jumper DOUG STEWART, middle distanceman ANDY DANNENBERG and weightman MARK DAUSCH. JEFF CARP, soph LEE BURRESS and senior CHIP ROCHE key Tufts’ hopes for a fourth straight winning season. The Jumbos will base their attack on the midfield power of Co. Capt. TOM FLANAGAN, SEAN NEROLICH, JOHN BUCKLEY and BRAD FALK. Goal is the major question mark. WOMEN’S LACROSSE The winningest spring team on the Hill last season with a 7-3 record, the Tufts women’s lacrosse team appears solid in ’78.
