Nicole, hard at work. Future Homemakers of America first began in June of 1945 when state home economic clubs, state Future Homemakers of America organizations, and indepen- dent home economic clubs joined together to form what it is now. FHA is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus. Its chapters encourage personal growth, leadership development, family and communi- ty involvement and understanding the dual roles of men and women. Its main emphasis is on consumer homemaking education. FHA is supported primarily by student membership dues. The organization also seeks individual, corporate and foundation gifts. Sponsorship is an endorsment rather than financial support. Realizing the necessity to develop life skills, the organi- zation provides a variety of opportunities for decision- making, personal growth, occupational preparation and community involvement. The values we develop through participation in these experiences will provide a basis for coping with a world of constant change. Rachel gets enthused! Smile! As you graduate from Tucumcari High School you are beginning the commence- ment . With this passing I hope you grasp the sense of wonder and excitement of continued personal growth that you have, till now, called learning. I hope that this personal growth will aid you to accomplish that which is possible and the strength to accept that which is not. As you compare yourself with others, remember that there are those who will always accomplish more and those who will achieve less than you. We are all an important and valuable part of humanity. Take hold of the positive, don't brood about your failures, strive to attain more than you think is possible and nuture your being. Make your own life beautiful and you will add to the beauty of others. Sincerely, F Cy e [1 — Guy Jacobus Superintendent ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT Tucumcari Municipal Schools P.O. BOX 1046 Tucumcari, New Mexico 88401 Dear Seniors: Ask yourself how many persons have affected your life. How many persons have had a direct influence in helping you reach this major goal? Take time to reflect upon that first day at school and how many other days people helped you towards achieving an education. An education is a never ending proce which you have only started to achieve. As you finish school you do not stop learning, for learning is an on going experience. Each day of your life you learn something new. As you finish your first phase of formal education, | wish all of you luck and hope that you thank a teacher or teachers for all that they have done towards helping you receive a foundation towards this IIfe time goal. Congratulations to each and every one of you! Sincerely, KrTstine J Director Special Education fobus Joe Garcta Tucumcari fMlunicipal Schools P.O. BOX 1046 Tucumcari, New Mexico 88401 Dear Class of 1987: As another school year comes to an end, you have passed yet another milestone in your pursuit of an education. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to wish you well as you pursue your goals. May you find success in all your endeavors. Sincerely, se P. Garcia Assistant Superintendent sien a ts Cpe nine 1100 South Seventh Office of the Principal Tucumcari, New Mexico 88401 November 5, 1986 | Senior Class 1987 Tucumcari High School Tucumcari, New Mexico 88401 Dear Senior: Congratulations on reaching a milestone in your life. The fact that you are reading this letter as a graduating senior says that you are on of the few, one of the minority. Worldwide you are one of the less than five percent of the world's population who will have attained the goal of high school graduation. It is my sincere hope that you will not consider this as the end but instead a time for reflection, a time to begin. This is your time, the time when you and your peers will begin to take the reins of leadership, to develop your community as you envision it. How you develop this community will deternine the quality of life not only for you, but for your children, and your grandchildren. Look forward. What has been is important only as a measure of what can be. Failures should be put aside, not forgotten but not dwelled upon. Each failure leads to a new opportunity for success. Let those of us who remain at Tucumcari High be proud to say ''there goes a Rattler''. You are a graduate of Tucumcari High. This is something you cannot change. Be proud of us; let us be proud of you. eee fe Respectfully, Thomas J. Durrett Principal Office of the Principal December 15, 1986 To the Class of 1987: As you leave Tucumcari High School, my wish for you is that you realize how fortunate you are, and that you take full advantage of this good fortune. You have experienced the past four years of your life under the direction and guidance of an excellent group of teachers. The training you have vaceived at ¢.N.S ais esupericin teas received by most other high school students. What you do with that advantage is now up to you. Some of you have made my first year in educational administration very challenging; all of you have made it very enjoyable, and I thank you for that. Ross H. In each of us lies a desire or a need to be somewhere else, But that is just the innermost knowing of the self. Time seems to speed up and moments together slip away As the long awaited tomorrow is suddenly today. f The friends you've made here will be forever in heart ye, Carmen Holguin . zo and the memories of times had will never depart. ; My wish for the Class of 1987 is that you remember your senior year with pleasant thoughts and memories as you pursue your dreams and goals. In Choices and Challenges the first emester, students learned how to apply for a job, fill out application forms, and learned bout management of time, energy and resources. The class applied and were given a 150 grant for the development of a video tape. The class chose the topic “Time anagement.” Under the direction of Dustin Runyan and other students that wanted to ork after hours, the class worked in groups and finally selected a script for the video. he video was completed and accepted in January and will premier at the State Leadership Conference on March 20, 21, and 22. Only proposals from 2 Chapters were pproved for the grant and Tucumcari High was one of the two! In the second semester, he class learned about economics and the business world. They set up businesses, ocuced a product, and marketed it. Lots of paperwork was involved as students mvested their own money and divided the profits. With the help of FHA-HERO, who urchased two sewing machines, the clothing class was able to work on wergers and arn the mass production of clothing on a machine that would cut, stitch, and finish a eam. This enabled students to finish garments twice as fast. Throughout the year all ome economics students will incorporate FHA-HERO and vice versa, in learning life ng skills. Too often many students believe that all science club mem- bers do is eat. We can't lie, we do this on occasion. Other things supported by our club, to list a few are: Three guest speakers. So far: The first speaker told the club about a career in radio and TV. The second speaker, a pharmacist, spoke on the effects of drugs on the body and also the advantages of a career in medicine or pharmacy. The third speaker is a veterinarian and he was asked by the group to talk on rabies and the incidence of this in New Mexico. Speakers planned for this spring: A college professor will speak on drugs and happy accidents in science. The club will invite many of the science classes to listen to this speaker. Another college instructor will talk to the chemistry classes, and other classes as space permits, on the magic of chemistry. The science club will be sponsoring the high school science fair this spring. On the lighter side we also sponsor Valentine kisses on Valentines Day. We plan other activities and speakers this spring as time permits. Earl Page and David Latham co-sponsors 150 “Good-Bye, Gabby!’ “We'll Miss You!!’ Tucumcari, New Mexico : .. Where on earth is that? After a week of campaigns, rallies, and elections, I left with a better under- standing of our government. The knowledge and friendships I gained during that week will last me a lifetime. Jennifer Browning. I guess you could say that Girl’s State was “the” experience for me. I learned about how our state government runs and about the process of electing all the different officers as ] am sure everyone else also did. The most important quality I found about Girl's State, was not the preceeding though. It was learning how to present yourself to strangers, yet to become friends, to learn how to branch out and not be afraid, and to be independent. Girl’s State made my patriotic spirits high and it taught me to appreciate my freedom and to honor my country and flag. I will admit that it was a little lonely, but it taught me things I never thought I would ever care about. It was an experience I will never forget. It was fun! “THANK YOU GIRL’S STATE.” Geraldine Marquez Geraldine Marquez 86 Boy’s State was an experience of a life time. I learned a lot about our government. Washington, D.C. becomes the classroom, giving a firsthand look at what's going on—a system of learning by doing. This year, twelve Tucumcari High School students attended the program, and each agreed it was an unforgettable exper- ience. Despite being with other schools from New Mexico, Tu- cumcari students shared the week with participants from the Atlanta, Georgia, area and schools in Rhode Island. The week was a tiring one for the participants, who were kept busy around sixteen hours a day. Students had seminars with A Week In Washington speakers from the Justice and Defense departments, the me- dia, and other organizations and toured such famous sites as the Jefferson, Lincoln, and Vietnam memorials. The trip wasn’t ALL work how- ever, as students were treated to a very entertaining dinner the- atre. The week ended with a banquet, featuring a talent show, and a dance, which gave every one a cchance to wish their new-found friends good-bye.
