The world is in search of peace and prepares for war, the hungry in search of food, the cold in search of warmth, the tormented in search of tranquility and the search goes on as a need exists. The seniors are in search of independence, excitement, success, peace and love. I hope your search includes the following: I hope first that you search for health, for without health you have little. I hope you search for love for in the face of all aridity, it is as perennial as the grass, search for a career not just a job, search for the development of your talents and the realization of your potential, search for a meaningful hobby to constructively use your leisure time. There are no pots of gold at the end of rainbows, but you will find what you search for if you are willing to make the commitment, sacrifice and work necessary for its realization. Don't settle for short term goals. Look for peace of mind and tranquility of heart. : Sincerely, éGerry D. Washburn Superintendent GDW: bd Mr. Phil Powers BOARD OF | The 1985-1986 school year would not have been a success without the hard work and dedi- cation of our School Board. Many thanks are extended to the Board from the students here at THS and from our out- standing faculty. We appreciate your efforts on the accomplish- ments you have made that will better strengthen our school and community. Mr. Eddie Encinias 108 ii U C U M C A R I Mr. Harold Borden EDUCATION The auditorium became a huge suc- cess. Tucumcari is growing rapidly, and without the people involved in our school system, we would not have the things that make THS great. Thank you. Norma Jean Crellin Mr. Bernard Fitzner Dear Senior Class of 1986 In search of the keys to attain your dreams and ambitions, you have been an intergral part of the Tucumcari Public Schools and the Class of 1986 at Tucumcari High School. It is my hope that you have acquired the basic skills and knowledge necessary to function in an ever changing world. I hope that you have developed the ability to think and act responsibly and the privileges which it affords. I hope that you have developed a desire to use both your skills and your knowledge to leave the world and a better place for you having been a part of it. It has been my privilege to have occupied a small part of your life and my wish for you is that your education experience will serve well in your pursuit of a long and successful life. Sincerely, Jose P. Garcia Assitant Superintendant _ Jose P. Garcia, Assistant Superintendent Robert J. Sanchez, Dir. Sp. Ed. Dear Seniors: As graduates of Tucumcari High School you are now in a very enviable position. Having received a most priceless gift, an educa- tion, you are now prepared to search for a better tomorrow. Take pride in the realization that you are a better person today because of your past efforts. Look to the future with much hope and take an active role in making the world a better place. The world is yours and only you can change the course of humanity. Let happiness be your guide throughout life. Our society seems to have forgotten what happiness is . . .a gentle breeze, a warm smile, a friend, parents and grandparents, the first day of the rest of your life. I truly hope that you will search for a better tomorrow and that your life will realize much happiness and personal accomplishment. As products of our generation we believe in you and trust that you will lead our society into a new generation of peace and prosperity. Take pride, graduates of 1986, we are very proud of you and we wish you the very best. Sincerely, Robert J. Hopefully, all students will realize and achieve the aforementioned goals. Ae tee a os | To the graduating senior, | wish you well in your future endeavors. Respectfully, an 3 pf fart: tne bf Robert H. Parnell, Principal Sel ales Someone has written, “For every pebble tossed into a pond, there is a ripple.” The average pupil does not often consider the impact of the little “pebbles” tossed out among classmates. They may be words of encouragement that cause the sunshine of understanding to break through the clouds of discour- agement and unhappiness, or they may be the guide posts of understanding and success. Are your “ripples” building a better school spirit, raising the scholastic standard of your school, creating friends wherever you are, and causing happiness because people know you? The impressions you make in your school days are the building blocks of your future. Tom Moran Counselor Tom Moran JD Hawkins To say hello, again and again Means to also say goodbye-- A short term goodbye, A long time goodbye, A final goodbye-- One never quite knows when the word Is said--Goodbye. And yet, I say hello, again and again I mean: to say I care-= _ I care for the moment, I care for a tine, I care forever. People can care and still must say-- Goodbye. Routines Continue To Improve and Impress in 1986! The Drillettes were in demand at all sorts of school and community events including Veterans’ Day where they performed on stage to Neil Dia- mond’s, “America”. They were also invited to the Sun Bowl, and per- formed at the huge Southwester States 4-H Convention and at the Tucum- cari Chamber of Commerce Banquet in 1986, ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’’!! Director Mrs. Moran choreographed these special events!! Above, officer Michelle Crespin awaits patiently for the beginning of the long State Fair Parade. (The Rattler Band and the Drillettes marched to a 2nd place rating and trophy!) And, left, gorgeous Pam Brandt shines in red, white, and blue as she and other drillettes listen for the downbeat of Neil Diamond’s “America”! Drill Team ts The Greatest! os ti isthe COLE, SKYHIGH KICKS: The Diamondback Drillettes are only two and one half years old (they began on Dec. 7, 1983), but the talents of these girls just keep improving! Like the great kicks of the six drillettes above shown performing to “America” in the Veterans’ Day Assembly. Michelle, Pam, Jo, Leslie, Danette, and Roxanne, will all be part of the 12-member ‘‘State” team hoping for first or second at STATE! Good Luck! “Attention!” Two Summer Camps Bring Honors and a SUPERSTAR Trip to Ireland for Captain Leslie in 1986! Praise and compliments poured in during both football and basketball season for the 85-86 Diamondback Dril- lettes as their improvement brought them honors and awards at both summer camps and an Albuquerque competition where they brought home a trophy in large group against both Sandia and Manzano high schools. Once again the Drillette captain was selected as an NCA Superstar Girl! Captain Leslie Moran, pictured left, was selected and chose to perform with the Super- star Drill Team in their Ireland performance during St. Patrick’s Day. The entire group stressed unity, disci- pline and sisterhood! They were especially proud of their “chair” routine during the football when they easily ‘bested’ rival northeastern N.M. drill team, Clay- ton! Also to be remembered was their “Jungle Love” homecoming pep rally routine and their dynamite con- tagions! The girls also were delighted to be invited to dance in the Miss Tucumcari (Miss America Scholar- ship Pageant)—below) SHNIORS: Velma Marinez, Corry Armstrong, Juanita Arguello, Leslie Moran, and Roxanne Barreras!! He went on to say, “A greater understand- ing and appreciation of marketing, merchandising, distribution of goods, management, decision-making, and our free enterprise system in general are all products of working towards national recognition. At the same time students increase their understand- ing of civic consciousness, social intelligence, and what it takes to be a leader.” The DECA(Distributive Education Clubs of America) competi- tive events program develops recognized competencies, needed by employees in marketing and distributive occupations. From these competencies students can be evaluated on practical work- related skills. Actual competitive proficiency measured through comprehensive exams and role-playing involving industry lead- ers. Participants must have successfully passed regional and state competitions to participate on a national level. National competi- tion will test the skills of students from all fifty states plus Canada, the Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The play was a three-act comedy. The plot revolves around the apartment of Oxford senior, Jack Chesney, (James Guy), who madly loves Miss Kitty Verdun (Ruth Van Sweden), while Jack's best friend, Charley Wykeham (Matthew Saltz), adores Miss Amy Spettigue (Robin Rodgers). Both young men are desperate to see their true loves and propose before the girls leave England for Scotland, but the propriety of 1892 forbade visitations of the opposite sex without the presence of an adult chaperone. This complication explains why the visit of Charley's auntie from Brazil, Donnie Lucia (Jackie Parker), is looked upon as the answer to their prayers for Jack and Charley. But the plan hits a snag when the girls each accept the invitation to tea but auntie wires saying she won't be there for days. A friend of the young men, Lord Fancourt Babberley (Dustin Runyan), is then tricked into impersonating auntie. Obstacles continue to arise, however, as two, elderly men, Sir Frances Chesney and Mr. Spettigue (Todd Duplantis and Dana Paul Leonard) respectively, decide to court auntie (Runyan) for her Brazilian millions. Things really get out of hand when Lord Babberley must agree to wed one of the old coots in order to procure letters of consent for the two, young sets of lovers to wed. Lord Babberley’s true love, Ela Delahey (Velma Martinez), then shows up with the real auntie in act three, and the ending is full of more, farcical moments. Completing the cast is Brassett, played by Thomas Moran; Cheeves, played by Robbie King; and Dom Pedro, played by Bam-Bam Kent. The play was directed by THS drama instructor, Debbie Moran. a@iineecpas AWINT Sir Frances Chesney greets Kitty. “Ah, tut tut—Charmed I’m 4 Babbs gets his lost love, Ela, at last! sure. “T say father!” Master Jack needs a new dressing gown—but Dad - won't pay!
