Rex Smith and Bobby Teakell not in picture. 1958 TRACK SCHEDULE DATE MEET PLACE March 22 XIT Relays Dalhart, Texas March 29 Dual Meet Fort Sumner April 5 Capital City Relays Santa Fe April 16 Clayton Relays Clayton April 18 Meadows Relays Fort Sumner April 26 District Meet Las Vegas May 2-3 State Meet Albuquerque The season opener was at the XIT relays in Dalhart, Texas, on March 22. The Rattler thinclads placed fifth with 13 points. Adcock placed first in the discus throw. Charles Richards placed first in the high jump and Rex Smith tied for second. The 440 yd. relay team placed fourth. The Rattlers then journeyed to Fort Sumner for a three way meet. Tucumcari took second honors. April 5, the Rattlers went to Capital City relays where they tied for eighth place with 9 points. Richards placed second in the high jump. Joe Paulson placed third, and Bobby Adcock placed fourth in the discus throw. The Rattlers ran away with the Clayton relays with 107 points. That same week the Rattlers placed third in the Meadows relays. The Rattlers took the District 2A with '70 points. Santa Fe was second with 56 points and Las Vegas was third with 54 112 points. Richards broke the school high jump record with aleapof 6' 3 1!4 and he was high point man of the meet. The six men who qualified for the State Track Meet were Bobby Adcock, Charlie Richards, Rex Smith, Roy Kleindolph, Joe Paulson, and Lon Cottingham.

The Rattler baseball squad came through in their usual winning manner this year. They passed through the season with a record of 8 wins and 4 losses. The pitchers, who were able to compile this fine record, were Sammy Kent and Titi Montano. The team, under the able coaching of Bob Hart, moved steadily toward the coveted trip to the state championship playoffs. In the final game before the playoffs, the Rattlers were defeated by East Las Vegas 5 to 3.
