Deans and Counselors Supervised Students Interested girls learned of iob opportunities through the Dean of Girls, Mrs. Brinea gor, who was always on the look out for possible positions tor students. Deans Mrs. Lorrette Brinegar and lVlr. Tony Roda worked together to solve students, problems b e s i d e s handling disciplinary measures. The Deans, office opened its doors to any student who had troubles. They also inspected the reasons behind all unexcused absences. Mrs. Brinegar sponsored Girls' League and lVlr. Roda advised the Lettermen. All of the Tucson High counselors at- tended the Southern Arizona convention held at the Ramada lnn in October. Five juniors and one senior, chosen by lVlr. Douglass, par- ticipated in discussions at the conference. During the year counselors visited all freshmen and sophomore English classes. The purpose of these visits ranged from freshmen orientation to informing students of registra- tion procedures. Students met privately with their counselors during class time. Counselors supervised College Board tests given on several Saturday mornings through- out the year. Faculty Spent Their Spare Time Traveling, Hunting and Studying As chairman of the Tucson Education Associations art show, Frances Smith checked in one ofthe entries. Auto Mechanics teacher John Confer used the tools of his trade for his hobby which was working on his V-l6 1940 Activities ranging from studying yoga to commanding the l85lst Military Police Bat- talion, managed to keep teachers busy outside of school. While Oliver Mayfield kept him- self in shape by officiating the Western Ath- letic Conference basketball games, sports en- thusiast Lynn Rhodes was glued to the tele- vision set watching any kind of sport he could. Touring foreign countries was a pastime for many Badger teachers. Last summer, Mrs. J an Jaap visited western Europe and spent three Weeks in Scotland with relatives. Harry Smith planned to travel to the South Pacific in the summer of 1968 to study the pearl in- dustry. Teaching a year in Kuaui, Hawaii was a new experience for Mr. Nicholson. Faculty member Tiny Mae Wong started camping this year as a new hobby. Robert Hutchinson enjoyed sitting out in the middle of a lake fishing. Other wilderness campers were Ann Mockler and Eileen Beever. Climbing a sixty foot vertical cliff on Mount Lemon was one pastime for Bob King during summer vacation. Cadillac. Because of the car's rarity, Mr. Confer became a member ofthe Classic Cars of America Club.
