fi :iw ff' 4' ary, , A. V. HUMPHRYS, President Student Government Today's students are tomorrow's citizens! Stu- dents at THS learn the fine points of democratic citizenship by participating in the student govern- ment program. To many of us, the phrase, You are now ex- cused to go to your 3rd period class, became sym- bolic of A. V. Humphrys and his role as Student Body President. However, though A. V. was the one who called to order and dismissed all student body meetings, his responsibilities represent ct more varied field. It was his job to appoint all- student committees for school proiects, to see that we students obeyed the acts passed by the Student Council and gen- erally to be the student Big Chief. Since co-operation is the by-word of every THS officer, the special duty of each is to work and co-operate to the utmost with his fellow officers as well as students. Vice-president Ion Rob- son shared A. V.'s headaches, lending help on numerous occasions to special projects like the Traffic Control Plan for 7th Street and presiding over Student Council meetings in A. V.'s absence. Though pint-size, jon was definitely a Big Wheel . The office of Student Body Secretary has numerous responsibilities which do not meet the average student's eye. Of course, Teta Martyn kept accounts of Student Council meetings, but her duties didn't stop there. For Teta took care of all student body correspondence. If a school was especially hospitable to any of our athletic teams, it received a thank-you note from Teta. For example, she wrote to the Mesa Student Council, thanking them for the hospitality shown THS students at the Mesa-Tucson foot- ball game. When other schools request- ed information or a copy of our consti- tution or handbook, it was Teta's job to see thattheir request was granted. Seven .councilmen-sophomores, Scott Westmoreland and Marilyn McNeill, juniors, Doug I-Iolsclaw and jim Milli- gang and seniors, Mary jane Westmore- land and Bob Pesqueira, together with Councilman-at-large jerry Tolle-made up the Student Council. They had charge of organizing the pep squad and choosing cheerleaders and song leaders, 5535 fei f' 4 TETA MARTYN 24 Secretary ,ION ROBSON Vice-lb resident
