M R. ANDY TOLSON Princijml dministration The exceptionally high rating of the Tucson school system, in comparison with other systems in cities of similar size, is more than a mere accident. It is more than a mat- ter of adequate space, imposing architecture, facilities for studying and recreation and even a top-notch teaching staff. At the very head, there must be a group of administrators who are experienced and expert in develop- ing a winning educational team. Among this group is Andy Tolson, ex- Dean of Boys, who is serving his first year as principal of Tucson Senior High School. His duties include living within the budget set by the Board of Education, establishing necessary rules and regulations for teachers and the student body, supervising instruc- tion and managing onffices, activities and maintenance of school property. Chief administrator of the Tucson school system is Mr. Robert D. Morrow. As Super- intendent of Schools, Mr. Morrow has served Tucson since 1940 and was previously in charge of schools in the states of Missouri and Iowa, as well as in Arizona. For such an edu- MR. MISS CALANTHE BRAZELTON Dezm of Girls cator, it is only natural to expect that one college would hardly be enoughg so Mr. Mor- row attended Mfestminster College in Fulton, Missouri, George Mfashington College in Washington, D. C., and secured his master's degree at Galaudet University. Mr. C. A. Carson, former principal of Tucson High, is second in command, carry- ing' the awe-inspiring title of Assistant Super- intendent of Schools in Charge of Secondary Education. In that capacity, Mr. Carson is responsible for the welfare and, progress of the several thousand high-school students in this school district. Co-education at Tucson High is more than a mere academic principle, it is also an opportunity for wide social activity, under the supervision of Miss Calanthe Brazelton, Dean of Girls. Though Miss Brazelton is primarily concerned with attendance and guidance, she also directs the after-game dances and the Junior Red Cross shows giv- en during the school year. In addition, she serves as advisor to the Girls' Social Hour Committee, the Honor Service Society and the United Badger Service which this year has assumed the task of furnishing aid to ten students who could not otherwise con- tinue in high school. Finally, we come to the members of the Board of Education, or School Board, elected by the property tax-payers of the school dis- trict. At the head of this board, which has the highest authority within the Administra- tion, is Mr. Fred Fickett, attorney and former judge. Mr. Oliver Drachman, business man, is a leading member of the Board. Newest member, re-elected for a full term this Fall, is Dr. Delbert Secrist, long interested in va- rious youthactivities and a former All-Ameri- can football player at WVashington and Jef- ferson College. Together, these three have final jurisdiction in the hiring of new teach- ers and in the planning and building of new schools. Long-faithful secretary of the Board is Mrs. A. W. Kellond. A school system can be no better than its Administration. Tucson's Administration is as good as they come! Sf-lmol liorzrdz Mrs. A. NV. Kclloncl, Mr. R. D. Morrow, Dr. D. L. Secrist, Mr. lf. NV.
