Tatum, who di-A rected his Tucker High School baseball team -- Tatum's Tigers --to the 4-AAA 'state championship, was selected by ballots of high school coaches throughout the state, members' of the GACA CGeorgia Athletic Coaches Associationj. ' The Tucker Tigers captured the state championship last year ln the AA classltlcatlon. This season, the team was advanced to the higher classification of AAA, yet won the region, title and went on to take the state championship - by defeating Savannah High's Blue Jackets: two straight games at Tucker in June. , 1 - f . Q In the semlfinalyotingg Coach Tatum 'was tamoung ,30 out-A standing coaches selected in the eight high school regions, and won the statewide title in finals ballotlng. Stephen Norris, base-' ball coach at Southwest DeKalb High, was named outstanding coach in the 5-AAA group. Ed Tatum has been on the' Tucker High coaching staff seven years, For five years he worked with both baseball and football squads but for the past two ,years has dealt exclus- ively wlth the varsity baseball squads. . He was a baseball and football star, at Troy State College CA1abamaJ and he earned his master's degree inphyslcal ed- ucation at the Univers1tyofAla- bama-. kwhen he ilrst carne to DeKalb County, he was head football coach at Clarkston High three years and 'spent one year at Cross Keys High as varsity track coach and assistant foot- ball coach. - ' ' '
