Wins Over Lakeside And Henderson Highlight 8-2 Season On the failure of a two-point conversion play, the Varsity Tigers opened the '77 season with a disappointing one-point loss to Peach- tree. However, a stunning one-point victory over arch-rival Lakeside the next week erased all memories of the earlier loss and guaranteed a successful season. The Tigers were rolling and Clarkston, Chamblee, and Johnson were the next victims. Dunwoody posed a more stubborn challenge but determination paid off. The Wildcats were added to the list of those subdued. A relatively easy Homecoming win over Habersham gave the Tigers a 6-1 record. For the first time in several years, Tucker was ranked in the Top Ten of the State AAA ratings. The opportunity to be the spoiler for 421-ranked Clarke Central posed the next challenge. The Gladiators lived up to their billing and a 14-0 loss crushed Tiger hopes for a berth in the state play-offs. Nevertheless, the team bounced back the next week and dazed backyard-rival Henderson in a 10-0 shutout. This marked the first time ever for victories over both Lakeside and Henderson in a single season. A Drill Team - sponsored plane carrying messages of good cheer over the stadium was the only real excitement in the season's finale, The Bombing of Briarcliff. Outstanding players included Tripp Andrews, defensive tackle, and Harry Burks, linebacker, who made All-State.Congratulations are due the entire team, however, for an excellent season. The B-Team Tigers posted a 5-1-2 record and defeated Henderson's B-Team for the lirst time in eight years. The Most Valuable Player Award for the 1977 season went to Gary Eubanks. Ties against Henderson and Clarkston brightened an otherwise long, long season for the eighth graders. The baby Tigers, however, did improve on last year's record! Mark King was the recipient of the M.V.P. Award on the Eighth Grade Team.
