The third TRUXTUN, DD 229, was commissioned on '16 February 1921. After a year of service on the eastern sea- board, she departed for the Asiatic Station, where shespent the next decade patrolling the Philippines-,H the coast of China, and .Japanese Water. From 1932 to 1939, DD 229 operated from San Diego, before return- ing to the Atlantic. In February 1942, she left Portland, Maine, 'with the destroyer WILKES and the stores ship POLLUX, enroute to Newfoundland.
