EXECUTIVE OFFICER LIEUTENANT COMMANDER EDWARD C. OHLSO UNITED STATES AVY Lieutenant Commander Edward C. Ohlson was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 20 August 1951 and graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1970 and after completing the requisite schools, served aboard the USS CASIMIR PULASK1 CSSBN 6331 as an Engineering Laboratory Technician QELTD. After completing four patrols in the North Atlantic, LCDR Ohlson was selected into the Navy Enlisted Scientific Degree in Physics from the University of Utah and upon graduation received his commission in 1979. He then served in the Knox Class frigate USS WHIPPLE CFF-10625 where he made two Western Pacific deployment. In 1983 he attended the Naval Nuclear Power School followed by Prototype, and in 1985 he served aboard the Virginia Class cruiser USS ARKANSAS QCGN-415. While on board ARKANSAS, he made two Western Pacific deployments, one of which traversed the globe. Following his sea tour, LCDR Ohlson was stationed at the NROTC Unit, University of Notre Dame where he also completed his graduate studies in the school of business in 1989. After completing his shore tour, he served in the USS CARL VINSON CCVN-705, where he made one Western Pacific deployment followed by a two year complex overhaul as the Reactor Department Complex Overhaul Coordinator. ln November 1992, LCDR Ohlson reported aboard USS TRUXTUN QCGN-353 and in December 1992 assumed duties as the Executive Officer. Among his decorations are the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal Cawarded twicej, and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Lieutenant Commander Ohlson is married to the former Susan Veit of Chicago, Illinois. They have three sons. Eric, August and Charles.

COMMA DI G QFFICER CAPTAI MARK 0. FLAHERT Y . . AVY Captain Flaherty was born in Washington, D.C. and hails from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1970 and completing temporary duty at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Staff, Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, he reported for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training. Completing Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training in 1972, he was assigned to the pre-commissioning unit of USS CALIFORNIA CDLGN 365. While in USS CALIFORNIA QCGN 361, he served in a variety of engineering billets associated with the construction and testing of the nuclear propulsion plant and after the ship's commissioning as Auxiliaries Officer and Damage Control Assistant. Reporting to the USS ENTERPRISE KCVN 651 in January 1976, he served for twenty-eight months as the ChemistryfRadiological Controls Assistant to the Reactor Officer and participated in several extended Western Pacific deployments. Following shore duty at the Plant Performance Evaluation Activity at the Ballston Spa, New York, Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, he reported to USS MISSISSIPPI ICGN 405 as Operations Officer. He served in that capacity during the ship's initial deployment to the Sixth Fleet and during operations with the Second Fleet. In the spring of 1983, Captain Flaherty reported as the Reactor Officer in USS CARL VINSON ICVN 703 and served as the ship conducted several deployments to the Seventh Fleet and extended operations in the Indian Ocean. Upon completion of a tour in the Combat Systems Division, Staff of the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations for Surface Warfare, Captain Flaherty assumed command in 1988 of the USS O'BANNON CDD987j in Charleston, South Carolina. Operations while in USS O'BANNON included deployment to the Persian Gulf and duty under the Commander, Joint Task Force Middle East. Captain Flaherty reports for duty as Commanding Officer of USS TRUXTUN after completing assignment as the Executive Director for Fleet Logistic Support at the Navy Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C. Among his decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. Captain Flaherty is married to the former Christine A. Reilly of Satellite Beach, Florida. They have two children: Jason, a freshman at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and Karen, a junior in high school,
