,. , M., . GC DIVISIO Communication is the command's lifeline between shore, other ships, and aircraft. Radiomen and signalmen play a vital role in the shipis mission by providing the means to exchange accurate, rapid, and secure information. They also regulate message traffic to and from the ship including administrative communications, personal- class easy mes- sages - and in the interest of morale, the latest news, sports, and business summaries from the Armed Forces Radio and Television Services. The signalmen are the experts in visual signaling. This is accomplished by three methods: flashing light, semaphore, and flaghoist. The majority of the traffic is administrative and tactical maneuvering signals. Signalmen also serve as the experts at identifying other ships and aircraft according to ship type and nationality.
