The Cultural Center on the North Shore, gives you a look into Hawaii's past, the way they dressed, how they lived, worked and played. swaying palm trees, pounding surf, soft moon light, lovely maidens, lots of good food and a few Mai Tai's to be a healing balm for later times of long sea periods. For some Hawaii is truely a paradise to which they would like to return.

Hawaii, the first step in a long transit overseas, was a welcome sight after more than two weeks at sea. Many crewmembers took advantage of the Island's natural beauty to spend their time taking pictures. Others enjoyed the thriving night life, and some just relaxed in the warm sunshine that makes Hawaii famous. There were tours available that allowed people to see many historical landmarks and monuments. The tours covered many areas of the island of Oahu, including tours of Pearl Harbor where you could see the memorials of World War II, the Pali Mountains, the only Palace in the United States, and many museums that can be found on the TRUXTU A MOME T AIR DET A D BOARD After three days of 'rest and relaxationi' however, it was time to get underway once again. The ship and her crew made their way out of Pearl Harbor and back into the wide Pacific. One necessary addition to TRUXTUN was completed, the LAMPS helo and air det were embarked From now until TRUXTUN returned to Hawaii, a full array of ASW equipment was on board. island.
