Baton twirling classes have been offered in the College Aca- demic program since 1939. Karl Thurman, International Men's Twirling Champion joined the faculty, later to be assisted by his sister, Mary Evelyn. Thur- man's College Baton Twirling and Dance was established in 1950, which conducts summer twirling clinics on nine college campuses. In 1959 a National Educa- tional College Sorority and Fra- ternity for Baton Twirlers and Dancers was founded on the KS TC campus under the guiding hands of President Walter H. Ryle, Dr. P. O. Selby, Dean Emeritus, and Mary Evelyn Thurman. Charter chapters, Beta Tau Delta Sorority and Beta Tau Alpha Fraternity, are the only ones of their kind in existence. Sig Kap's Garden of the Gods boasted many queens. Seventy-five coeds pledged four so- cial sororities after the rush parties concluded the latter part of fall quar- ter. Sig Kap's Garden of the Gods , Tri Sigmais South Seas , Delta Zeta's Polynesian Paradise , and the Al- pha's Alpha-Traz furnished varied entertainment for their respective par- ties. Coffee hours and parties launch sorority rush Delta Zeta's went whole-hog in their Polynesian Paradise. 26 With cellmates like these, who couldn't be glad to go to Alpha-Traz?
